Title says it, I've been talking smack about my co-workers "fast" cars and now they all want a piece of my Camaro
I've got a '95 Gallant (stock or very close to, or he's lying to me) up against me, then a 91 Acura Legend (ignition mods nothing else that I know of), then a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 (bone stock). Also got a Ford 4x4 light pickup '96, don't know the model, 350 hp crate ford engine. A friend of one of my co-workers will bring a turbo'd import too, although I haven't found out what he drives or what power he's sitting on yet.
My car is an '82, has a engine with great parts (AFR heads, scat crank, wiseco pistons, elderbrock performer intake, aftermarket HEI) but not dyno'd for proven power (estimated 400+, it breaks traction in 1,2 and barley breaks in 3rd floored from a stop), 4 speed T-10, pretty stock suspension, posi 4.10's, and 275/40/17 tires all around. Then some small stuff like electric fans, holley performance carb, no smog equipment, aftermarket torque arm and traction bars, 4" single exhaust with headers, removed a lot of weight etc.
We are planning on doing a very early morning drag 4:30 or 5:00 am probably this weekend or the next. There's a street behind one of the shops/wharehouses we use for work that is roughly two miles long and only two alleys feed into it and it dead ends on one end. The road is newly paved, so traction will be good. We'll have some friends block or guard the alleys and record us while we drag a few times. Looks like we'll be doing quarter mile races, mile races, and burnout competitions. Not going to race for pinks, obviously, since the other cars are not as heavily modded, just going for fun and maybe small bets under $500.
Now, since I don't have pics, videos, or results yet, what do you guys think about this? Any bets on who's going to come in first, second, and last? You think any of these guys will beat me? Any tips for my first (yes, my first) race? I'll post up results after it happens, whenever that is.
The descriptions are vague at best, but you should beat any of them unless you stomp it on the line and play "sit n spin" while the Galant walks all over you.
Are you seriously going to do a burnout competition with a Galant?
Name one of those people who is willing to bet you $500 in a race? The only one I think is the turboed import you know nothing about. If he plans to bet that much, I would be scared of what he could have!!
I second gcgarner, go to a real track, especially that 1 mile race you talk about could get crazy if speeds get high. As for order, I'll venture a guess:
1) Your Camaro: assuming its working as you say, and you don't sit and spin all day
2) Acura Integra: Not fast, but quicker than it should be. Don't underestimate it.
3) Dodge Ram: Bump this up to 2nd if its got the Hemi.
4) Ford truck: 4x4 makes it heavy. Has no business in a race.
5) Galant: Have fun laughing. Overweight and underpowered.
Wildcard: Turboed import. Could be a crazy turboed Supra/Evo, could be a Tercel with stickers. Who knows?

yep watch it with that import. could be pretty quick or could be slow as hell.
You guys misunderstood, no one is planning on placing bets, but if we do they will definately be UNDER $500, probably under 100 lol. I'm not that stupid, nor are they. This race day isn't about money, or even winning for a few of us, its about having fun and finally seeing which one of us has the car to back up our big talk
For the guys calling bs, you guys just watch, if they all don't back out then you'll see me post pics and vids in this thread. Looks like it's going to happen next weekend. Also, they are not all racing against only me, we're all going to race against each other and see who has the fastest times over a whole slew of runs and race rules. I was asking which guys will place first, second, and last after all the times are recorded, not just against me. The burnout competition is for fun, I believe ANY car can do a burnout if they have a line lock, so who cars if a 1000 hp car burns out against a 300 hp car, as long as the smoke comes out strong we have a competition!
To the people saying do it on a track, you are right we SHOULD do it on a track but we're all dumb ***** and want to do it this way. The mile race is specifically for the guy driving the legend who says he'll crush me on the top end. I might run out of gearing, which means that race might be a close one. I run 3,500 rpm in 4th (my last gear) at 70 mph, so I might top out at 120-140 simply because of gearing.
NOTE: I edited my first post to correct some car specs on their rides, such as models and years. The acura is NOT an integra, it's a acura legend, I was mistaken. I also added the crate aftermarket engine in the ford, he says he bought a ford crate engine putting out 350 at the flywheel.

Well to modify my rankings:
Put the Ram in 2nd place over the Acura
The ford stays in 2nd. 350 hp at the flywheel still wont help much. A 4wd simply isn't meant for racing. Maybe over the Acura....
I don't think you have much of a problem, but the vague description of the "import" makes me nervous. A friend of mine has an 05 STi(modded) and we run even as can be(I have an 02 WS6 intake and exhaust). Be careful.
I will comment on the burnout thing... There is a big difference when two cars do a burnout. Sure MOST cars can do one (without a line lock) but a 1000 hp will do one a lit better than a 300 hp as the example you used.
We had a small competition for one at my fathers school (charity type thing). My dads 450 rwhp Mustang did the hands down best. Why? He started in second, shifted to third, then fourth. Rear tires doing about 140 mph, Race Mufflers making a lot of noise, etc...
But it is true, most cars will do a burnout until the tires pop!
Yes this vague description of an import, honestly i am hoping and praying it is something like a swapped or boosted Xb, cause a built/boosted Xb walking a 3rdgen would just be funny to read about :P
Yeah, not when you have car coming out the factory near, at or past that. But no fears. just like the early 70's Washington it doing all they can to fix that!
