'97 SS/SLP Z28 LT1 6spd

How fast are these cars in stock trim? What would it take for them to dip into the 12's without opening up the motor?

4.10 gears, drag radials, and longtube headers should definitely put it in the 12s. Some in stock trim can beat some of the slower stock LS1's. Some are factory freaks and some are slugs. Some people know how to drive better than others. I think high 14's for most stock LT1's.

high 14s? are they that slow?.....i cant see a LT1 running around the same as my bolt on L03.

The lt1's run low to mid 14's stock an ss Camaro or ws6 bird driven right can hit high 13's
I hear that the later lt1 cars may have gotten some lt4 parts kinda like some of the ls1 cars got ls6 blocks toward the end of that production run.

only difference between a lt4 and lt1 is heads cam intake and rockers, no LT1 got any LT4 parts stock, there were a few LT4 powered 4thgen cars though, those being the 106 SLP SS 1997 CAMAROS, and 29 SLP 1997 FIREHAWKS. Wich if this 97 that we are talking about really is a 97 SLP SS then its LT4 powered... and side note the "LS6 block" ls1s dont have any performance edge over a normal ls1 engine.

Re: '97 SS/SLP Z28 LT1 6spd

Mine ran 13.50@103 when it was bone stock back in 96. Then I swapped in 4.10 gears, K&N, 160 t-stat, and a HPP+ and ran a 13.18@104. Still on the stock GSC's. HOT cam, SLP dual cat headers, Borla/SLP cat back, LCA's and panhard rod, and Nitto drag radials got me to 12.4@111.

Most LT1's ran high 13's. There were some that ran in the 14's also.

Re: '97 SS/SLP Z28 LT1 6spd

My stock Auto/3.23 LT1 ran a 14.3 in warmer air. With gutted ram air, LTs, cutout, stall, Madz28 tune it was neck and neck with my bro's same modded LT1 T/A with 3.42s and he ran 13.1s @103. Again, both stalled auto LT1s.

Re: '97 SS/SLP Z28 LT1 6spd

I figured it wouldn't be too hard. The details about this car is unknown exactly. It was slightly modded but I wasn't told what parts were used. I was considering this car to buy but the guy wanted too much for what I was offering. Maybe it is a real SLP/SS.

Re: '97 SS/SLP Z28 LT1 6spd

LT1s are underrated and overlooked by most of the automotive world. just a few personal examples:

- my ex GFs 94 auto Formula went 14.0 at 100 absolutely bone stock
- a friends 95' Z28 6speed went 13.5 at 104 with only a catback and a LT4 KM
- my free modded 93' Vette 6speed went 13.3 at 107
- my current LT4 Vette with free mods, hotcam, and a tune went 12.2 at 116mph

LTXs are faster and have more potential than most people think

97' Buick Regal GS (L67/4T65-E)
- 100% bone stock... 14.54 at 94.44mph

97' Saturn SC2 (1.9L 4cyl DOHC/5speed)
- also 100% bone stock, but much slower than the Regal!

98' Chevrolet Camaro Z28 (LS1/4L60E/3.23s)
- hard to believe, but its actually 100% bone stock also!

Re: '97 SS/SLP Z28 LT1 6spd

depending on location, i would imagine a set of drag radials could put one into the 12's. if not, a couple of the usual boltons/exhaust/cai in addition to the radials should do it.

Re: '97 SS/SLP Z28 LT1 6spd

I had a 1996 z28, 6 speed. I couldn't drive it worth ****..i think with a 2.5 sixty foot i clicked off 14.1 @ 98mph...might have been a 2.3. Car was tough to launch, had alot of chatter (flywheel was messed up). I pegged the rev limiter just before i went through the traps too. Car had intake, slp loudmouth and underdrive pullies.

I loved the damn car...
