Trans Am GTA vs 4-Door Honda Civic....

Obviously, I wouldn't be posting a story like this if it weren't interesting, so I'll start with my car's details. Got my hands on this car a few months ago, and from what I was told, it was a fully optioned out Black/Black GTA, T-Tops, TPI w/auto. To my surprise, and after I got the car back to my garage, the car originally came with a 5-speed. No biggie, as I plan on restoring it somewhere down the line after I have my fun with it. I recently ordered an RPO code list because I couldn't find one anywhere in the car, mainly because the VIN indicates L98 as well, so I want to see what the heck I got here....

But anyways, the original engine was pulled out not too long ago (getting rebuilt), and will be installed later on with the right manual tranny, but for now, a Tuned Port Injected 305 made its way back in with the current automatic that the car came with. The stock multec injectors were shot, so I installed a set of LT1 24-pounders for the time being, and, well, other than an open element air filter, 3" Flowmaster catback, gutted cats, it's bone stock, and still running exhaust manifolds. The car did in fact come with a 3.42 posi as well, and I did some minor tuning on my end. Haven't made a real pass yet, I'm actually hoping to make one tonight at e-town if the rain stops in time, but she pulls nice for what it is....

About 4:30 in the afternoon yesterday, I'm on my way to pick up my wife from work, and within a fair amount of traffic I crossed paths with a 4-door Honda Civic. Very gawdy machine, red car, 14" rims, small pink aero wing, I just had to laugh. We were already on a three lane expressway, but only going about 20-30 MPH because of the traffic. I was in the middle lane, and he was in the right, about a car a head of me. Figured what the hell, let me give him a taste of what a little American muscle sounds like. I blipped the throttle as I was passing him, the Flowmasters made a sweet sound, nose went up in the air a little, and I quickly made my way by him. His lane though must have gotten tied up, as before I knew it I was like ten cars ahead of him....

Oh well, my exit onto another expressway was coming up, so I got into the far left lane. I glanced in the rearview mirror, and I see the same Honda Civic cutting people off trying to catch up to me. Again though, I just had to laugh. He finally gets behind me as we both make our way onto the other expressway. Other than maybe a few cars out on the road, it was an open road, but we both had to be careful getting on though. Now, I didn't initially think that he was looking to run me, I just figured he happened to be going the same way that I was, so when I made my way on first, I hit it, and immediately put a few car lengths on him, but again though, he didn't get on the expressway yet. So, after a few minutes goes by, I actually forgot about him, and I'm cruising in the fast lane doing about 60-MPH on a two lane expressway. Out of nowhere I see this guy again cutting in and out of traffic trying to catch up to me lol, and before I knew it, he was right behind me again....

Now, my exit was still about two miles yet, so I knew that if he lined up with me it was definitely going to go down, and from the very sound of this guys exhaust tone, because it suddenly got louder because of a cut out, I knew he wasn't playing any games. Still being behind me, there was still one more car going kind of slow to the right of me, forcing this Civic behind me because he couldn't get over yet, so I used that to my advantage and slowed down to about 45-mph. The car to the right must have realized what was going to happen, because he actually slowed down to let the Civic get in front of him. This little punk *** though, he didn't line up with me, he just made his way over to the right lane and floored it. He was still about a car behind me when he did that, so I punched it. The GTA did fairly well for about five seconds, when out of nowehere I hear a damn turbo spool up, and the damn Civic was out of there, and I mean OUT OF there. He pulled me so damn hard it honestly felt like I was in the freaking car with him, as my neck started to hurt just from watching his snap back and get pinned down....

I couldn't even give this guy the thumbs up because he was that far ahead of me lol. Of course, when my exist finally arrived, I got off, and I was freaking pissed lol! I'm hoping to make it to the track tonight for a quick pass just to see what I'm working with, as I'm sure it's somewhere in the 14's right now. I'm going to have a little fun with this 305 engine, especially after losing as bad as I did. I'm not one to point fingers because the guy was running a turbo and I wasn't, or that my TPI is restricted, blah blah blah, a loss is a loss, and I lost. The plans for the other motor is to slap on a T76, but it looks like I'll be installing it on the 305 very soon, because that ain't ever happening again....

Now that I think about it, he probably thought that exact thing about me (when I blipped the throttle, instigating it). I really wanted to give this guy the thumbs up too, because it was impressive as hell, a total freaking sleeper. Let that be a lesson to some of you guys, don't start provoking stuff with the cars that look slower than the average slow car lol, cuz you just might be made an example of, and it's humiliating as hell....

That's it, sell the car!

A surprise like that is fun from time to time.

Of course he didn't line up & then run. He knew he needed the spool up time, so he jumped on the throttle early & showed you his taillights!

When I still had the gold crosslace wheels on my car, the only cars that would try with me were the BIG engine cars. I always suspected they assumed I was a TTA & didn't even wanna try.

Funy thing...With my Snypers now, NOBODY ever tries.

No need to buy a simple list of what was available. gtasourcepage.com, has a good list of the RPO codes.

As far as buying what YOUR car came with......$50 (IIRC) to Pontiac Historical Services, will get you your list, for your car.

Priceless? More like embarrassing....!

I just finished siamesing the lower ports on the TPI intake, as well as the runners, and I cleaned up the plenum. I pulled a set of 882 heads that I had from another project, and ported them out very substantially (velocity wise, not in diameter). The heads are 1.94 / 1.60 w/8:5 compression. I already had a reverse split cam from another build, and that will be going in next week, along with the $59 code, and the corresponding parts that I recently finished....

I'm only working with a set of 28-pound injectors off of my buddy's Grand National for now, just to dial everything in, and the engine won't see more than 15-psi, at least until the alky injection is installed, which won't be for awhile. Should have some baselines for the 305 without the turbo first, then later on with. Funny thing is I seen that wise @ss again not too long ago, and fuc**** smirked from a distance. Not going to let that slide, trust me....
