Re: 02 Focus SVT VS 89 L98 GTA

how much power do you have and what is you wight. if you are around 2500 pounds and around 210~220HP it will be a good race. if you are at that wight and 300 plus HP you will win hands down. the best n/a build svt focus was at 175 HP ( built by CFM) and that's full exhaust new intake manifold new intake cams new pistons the works. so i am going to be very nice and say with nitrous that he is at 220. but that number is high also i hope he does not expect his tranny to last long the mtx-75 that came in the focus are weak unless you cyro the gears and send the tranny to terry hanes to have it rebuilt. (terry hanes is one of the lead designers of the mtx-75 and will upgrade the tranny to hold more power but it costs.)

side note why is this showing up as my first post. i guess some sections don't go to post count?

Re: 02 Focus SVT VS 89 L98 GTA

He backed out of the race because he didn't have time to get his NOS filled. I am kinda glad he did though because he said he runs low 14'2. I should be there too, but with my car so far out of tune, I ran a best of 14.8 We are matching up again sept. 16th. I hope to have a few more parts on by then and a tune. So I will feel much more confident. If I can figure this damn TPS out, it will be running much better. Also I need my brakes done. The front ones won't let me rev it up to launch and higher then stock idle.

hey i must admit it sounds like he is a good guy. most focus tuners try saying they are 13.5 cars and thats pretty upfront of him to say his is a 14 second car. good luck with the race when it happens.

Oh, he is a good buddy. He loves American cars, and the focus he has had since he was 16. He has done alot to it. I don't want to lose to a Ford or a Focus though!

Yea, He has been trying to talk me into it. I haven't done enough research on how it would effect my internals. I would like to see how much I can get out of just the engine before hitting the bottle. (although I am not opposed to it!)

LOL, good replies! Well, we rescheduled the race for Sept. 16th at our local strip. Since the last time I ran, I have added port matched gaskets, an AFPR, an aluminum mandrel bent intake tube with open element filter, drag radials, tuned up a bit, and a little weight reduction. I am thinking of a couple other little things I can do to try and get the edge, but don't have enough time for anything major.

Race fuel, you win. lol. I think you should win, my friend had Focus and the other had a focus SVT, both turboed and they were not that fast. NA that motor is slow, upgrades make anything fast but the sad thing is unless its boosted, or some crazy 10K RPM honda engine its really not going to get up and go.

Re: 02 Focus SVT VS 89 L98 GTA

If I can get far enough ahead at the start I should be able to keep a little bit of a lead while he hits his NOS squirt. I want to try and launch some where around 1500 or so. His is stick so he can get it up much higher, but my car is hooking good off the start.

Re: 02 Focus SVT VS 89 L98 GTA

Well, the race is scheduled for Sept. 16th. I just bought a set of Mickey Thompson ET Drag Radials. 255/50/116 I will be mounting them on an extra set of stock rear wheels I have. Hopefully this will give me a bit of an edge. I also switched my gaskets in the intake to the large runner ones. (I have ported Accel runners and siamesed plenum with no egr walls) I am also going to bolt on a mandrel bent air intake tube with big cone filter for the race. (it is super ugly and I don't plan to have it on except to race) Bumped up fuel pressure to about 46 PSI. Also getting a bit of a tune this coming week. We will see how that turns out... I REALLY don't want to lose to a Focus LOL

Well, we raced tonight, 3 times. I won every one of them. Two were not close but one was .2 difference. His best was 14.822 My best was 14.488. Neither of us was getting any traction. Me spining thru first and second and he was spinning in second after hitting the NOS switch. Really fun time tho!

told you it would be a easy race. if you would have hooked up you would have killed a bit better. but good job the power vs weight ratio was in youre favor. good times on that focus though i will admit. whats the elevation there?

We are right about at sea level here. The temp was 68-65. It was a bit of a breeezy night. His car weighed 2756 with him in it. Mine was over 3300 with me in it. He said he wasn't hooking well either, but nobody was last night.

wow his car is heavy my zx2 escort was only 2234 with me in it. but i had striped the engine bay down alot no a/c p/s with electric water pump. makes me wonder what what it would have run at the track. it mad me cry when i had it crushed. but it had a hard life. when i got it of the show room floor i took it home and started modding it with a manual transmission. /end rant
