I raced a turbo rx8 after some crap talking from the guys in my automotive class. I thought he was gonna kill me guess the turbo scared me. We lined up and i thought my only advantage off the line would be lost to my 2:73's and wheel spin. We took off side by side until i stopped spinning and then i was ahead until 70ish when he started to pull pretty hard. I was pretty proud cause i thought i was gonna do alot worse.
how much does a better gear ratio actually help? im thinking about swapping out my 2.73's
one of my mentors said this to me and when i made a remark about how all that matters is under the hood a while back:
"what good is 500rwhp if you cant bring a car to a stop, on the same note what is the point again of having a 500hp at flywheel motor if your drivetrain acts like you have 200hp?"
it was something like that i guess
with that said a posi 3.73 rear would make a good bit of improvement. when i went from a non posi 2.83 or 2.86 something like that to my 3.73 posi it was a bit of a improvement. well the non posi rear was in my buddies car that had a L69 carbed, and my car has a L69 but a posi 3.73 rear, both cars are auto overdrive. he drives his year round so he doesnt want a posi rear i drove once when there was alittle ice on the ground i have never done that again

Maybe I'm weird... but I find a posi a lot more predictable and easier to drive in inclement weather? That said, I never deal with snow... but with a posi you wont lose traction on one side and just sit there and spin while theo ther wheel does nothing... The posi will keep both tires spinning. Kinda like how mud boggin trucks have posi's... they have no grip either and go all over hte place and the posi makes it a lot more predictable and useful.

i twice had to get out and push my car as one tire was on ice and the other pavement, not to mention im cheap and my tires were basically bald. i looked so silly one tire spining and the other stationary. the second time it happend i just burned/melted the ice by floor my car for around min or two...............i got pulled over for "showing off" or something stupid like exhibition of speed, cant remember the term. explained to the copper the dealio and he let me go, simply because honestly why would i sit there at a deserted light revving my car for over 30 seconds with no one to watch or race??????????? i just didnt want to get out in the cold. i live in nebraska and its not if we get snow its how many feet each winter.

true that lol, i live in indiana so we get alot of weird weather and alot of snow and ice
I'm having a rematch at the track tonight. Turns out he had a bad intake leak last time. He fixed the leak, turned the boost up, and gotten a better tune. Since last time i've gotten better heads(now it doesn't run out of breath at 70) the cars better tuned and a rebuilt transmission with a little done to it, still have the same open diff and gears just now more traction problems . I've never raced at a drag strip so this will be my first time and i'm going to take a few passes before i race him. So who do you think will win? Hopefully i can get a video.
Just like i thought i couldn't hook to save my life (the left lane was supposed to be worse). I had a lot of fun though my fastest pass was my first ever 9.64(right lane go figure). I made 4 passes every time my time would be slower and my speed would be faster. When i finally raced the rx8 it was my worst run of the night(even forgot my seat belt) but i don't think he got me to bad, tell me what ya think.

It wasn't too bad. If you had a better reaction time, as well as sixty foot, it would have been much closer, but then again it was hard to tell from the video if he got that big of a jump on you because he was running with his freaking headlights on lol....

I'd much rather be stroked first... then blown. Wouldn't you?

yeah i'm not gonna lie that was pretty bad on my part (worst of the night lol) i plan to practice and get a rematch but i could tell i was walking him down when i finally took off
Yea, I was asking the track name. I'm guessing that it isn't shady side since you didn't know what I was asking. I just thought the track looked familiar.
Like the old saying goes..."spinnin aint winnin" unless it's a burnout contest. Next mods should be gears and suspension to hook it up. That should help to make for different outcome at the stripe.
Just curious as to why you didn't install a conveter too when you rebuilt your tranny?

I had some problems with rebuilt trannys and the converter i bought didn't fit the one that i ended up using.
