This race hasnt happened yet(still breaking in the engine) but my best friend has an 06 gto. It is bone stock besides flowmasters. Im pretty scared to race him cuz i know the new gto's aint messin around.
All i have in my 82 TA is 406sbc and a th350(stock rear end is probably my downfall). But either way we joke around alot about racing each other but neither of us wants to just cuz we're really good friends.
So what do you all think. By how much do you think he'll beat me?

The LS2 cars are no doubt very stout but without knowing whats in your 406 we won't be able to estimate. Your 406 could be making anywhere from 150 to 600 hp without specs
well i had it professionally built 1 yr ago and my dumba$$ lost the parts list. But i got it dynoed at 390 rwhp(i think its 440 at the fly). Maybe that'll help?

If you make 390hp at the wheels you should win. A M6 LS2 GTO will put down around 330 to 350 rwhp stock with a 4000lb curb weight. A full bolt on GTO will put down near 380rwhp. Your car is lighter and is making a little more power.
Depending on good a driver the GTO is, it should run low 13's. You are right that the rear is going to kill you. Even though you are making more power, it will probably be a close one. I'm thinking you have a 2.73 or 2.9 gears? It's just going to take a long time to get into the rpm, especially with a TH350.

yea i think i have 2.73 gears. plus i dont have posi.
ur right about me taking a while to get into the rpm, especially with a 3000 stall.
do you think if i installed sum posi that it'll help me get a grip and launch, or is getting better gear ratio a must?
I'd say both. You need a little lower gear ratio and a posi. Like stated above, depends on if he can drive or not. You probably will have a better chance with your gearing if you race 1/4 vs 1/8th mile, but you never know til you do it. I wouldn't let winning or losing come between a friendship, it's all good.
