Thinking of running my GTA

I have an 88 Trans am GTA with an L98. The car is almost totally stock with the exception of a K&N cone filter and a hypertech prom. I am going to take it Las Vegas motor speedway and try to make a couple runs. The car is in magnificent shape mechanically. What kind of times should I expect? I'm thinking mid 14s??? I always have 91 octane gas in it too, if that makes a big difference. My father said he would race me in his 05 Mustang GT. I know normally that car would hand my *** to me, but he has 20" chrome wheels, its a vert, and he is not very good at shifting the manual trans, so this combined leads me to believe I have a chance. This is going to be our first time at the track so that makes it even closer. I was also thinking of trying to be on the TV show "Pass Time" on Speed TV because they are going to be taping there on the 4th. Ill let you guys know if I get on the show so you can look for me and my car. Its going to be interesting that all I can say lol.

Possibly mid to possibly low 14's depending on how well the car is running and tuned out stock.

Re: Thinking of running my GTA

You might stand a better chance than you think with that Stang. My bone stock LT1 auto/3.23 was dead even with a bone stock '05+ hard top 5spd GT to 95mph with me starting to inch away. The guy could drive it too. My car did a 14.3@95 bone stock (AZ D.A. isn't the best place for times) A stock auto LT1 isn't that much quicker than a bone stock 3.27 L98 car. With the added vert weight, and bad shifting, you might beat him. Get some MTET street DRs and have fun.

How well do these cars hold up to that kind of abuse? I am not going to race it often just every once in a while. But I really don't want to screw it up. It is in excellent shape mechanically, all fluids just changed and filled to the proper levels, all that good stuff.

The car will be fine. Don't worry about it. These things were designed for all out performance. You'll be doing it a grave disservice NOT running it.

But again, Drag radials is one of the best, if not the best investment I made. I can put them on for the track night, and remove them. Consistency is a drag racers best friend. I never liked hoping I would get a decent launch and fudging it up. I love how every time I know the launch will be there.

My guess is mid-high 14's. I dont think you would be able to beat the 05 gt. Those run mid 13's stock, and the verts are high 13's, bottom 14's.

Re: Thinking of running my GTA

I'm thinking 14.7's-15.0's.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for that but contrary to popular belief not every GTA is a mid-low 14 second car in stock form. Also factor in that the track is at almost 2000ft elevation. It will take a good, good run to get into the 14's.

Re: Thinking of running my GTA

You guys are pretty optimistic. Even with a chip, I think it'll run low 15's. Coupled with the fact that it has never been down the track, I don't think you'll see stellar times.
