i got a 83 Recaro T/A will 3 inch exhaust with a flowmaster 80's series and dual k and n becuase its a CFI injected motor and i got moroso wires and bosch platinum 4 plugs and new accel cap and rotor and accel super coil and a fresh 305 with 9.6:1 compression with 12k on the motor and about a 215 degree cam in it with a 700r4 and 3.23.... so if i switch to 3.73 what will the difference be at the track, how much better will my car run in the quarter. also what will my car be very driveable on the highway still? right now i run about 70mph at 2000 rpms in the last gear! thanxs guys u r the pros of third gens!

I would say they would drop your time by .2-.3 in the 1/$4. With OD the car will still be drivable but you probably won't want to always drive 70, you would be around 2500rpm. How tall are your tires. The taller the tire the less rpm's you'll run. Right now I have 25" tall and will be going to 27" when I get the money.

yeah it seems like lower gears (numerically higher) work well with 4 spd auto trannies. with 3.73:1 in the ends you shouldn't be reving too high. Imagine all those guys with 3.73 or more in their rear ends with turbo 400 or turbo 350 trannies.
thanxs guys for the info...
i recently ran into a 68 firebird for sale for 2k and i think i might buy it so the mods on my 83 ta might have to wait awhile!
but who the hell knows maybe i wont get it and then ill be back to modifing my car again!anyways thanxs again for sharing the info!

Yeah, 2.73s to 3.73s are going to be a big difference for a LT1, not a CFI Recaro T/A. 3.73s aren't going to shave 9 tenths of a second off a CFIs ET. On the LT1....more than likely, yes. Aren't LT1s great?
I would definitely recommend 3.42 or 3.55 gears, that could take a few tenths off your ET, but the 3.73s are way too much.
I thought 4.10s would make my car run a lower ET, when it just made it run slower! But it sure is more fun to drive on the street. Not on snow though....

so what ur saying is the acceleration increases as the gears get lower 3.73's for example. but i got to do it in modesty? ok well i think 3.42's would be good but the 3.73's sound like they still got good results!
thanxs guys for the help!

I don't have it with me, but Chevy High Performance with their "My Generation Camaro", '87 LG4 w/2.73's stock, had their biggest single gain by going to 3.73's (and posi), about 1/2 a second.
