Vortec Sonoma

This guy i know talks a lot of smack about his truck it's a late 90s model Vortec Sonoma 6 cyl with the only mods being intake and exhaust. Besides that he has a 50 or 75 shot of NOS. How fast is this car? My car that i'd be racing him with wouldn't be my '87 it would be my '76 firebird with a 355 isky mild cam, hooker headers, edelbrock intake, carter cam, mallory ignition, eaton rear end with 3.73 posi and a B&M shiftkit. Thanks guys for your help

My guess for him on the nitrous is somewhere in the 15s. You should walk all over him with no problem.

really that 6 cylinder vortec is that slow? i would've figured all motor maybe high 15s and low 15s or high 14s on the bottle. Everybody says his truck is really fast when he juices it, i think thats just the SOTP dyno cause nitrous always gives a good kick.

Those trucks stock were in the 16s and we have a 4.3 blazer, which after driving my Mustang or our Subaru Impreza feels like a school bus (not b/c of size, but b/c of speed.)

I guess he has a chip too but those are his only mods, the only reason i was worried cause when i asked around to people they were like oh his truck is fast! but all these people drive economy cars so i'm sure it felt fast to them.

It's hard to compare cars by how they feel. I drove a 2001 Firebird Formula and rang it out to about 80 and then went and did the same with my 89 LX with the old motor blowing oil smoke, and the Mustang seemed to pull harder. i know the Mustang would have gotten anhilated but it did throw you in the seat harder.

Not to take sides, but my 2000 S10 daily driver ran a 15.77 with a K&N and free mods. If his truck runs as good or better N/A....then a 75 HP shot would put him in the 14.6-14.8 range - easily. By no means is that earth shattering performance, but how many people would suspect a truck like that would run 14's?

ha ha it is just like autozone I always fight with those idiots they think that they know all. the funniest one was a few months ago when the guy tried to tell me all the vortec gm trucks were supercharged I kept laughing at him and told him where I worked and I have yet to see one sc from the factory. (I am sure that they have made a few rare ones but, they would be rare)

i know a total a$$ that is loaded, and he had a '99 S10 Xtreme into the low 13's. I guess he had alot of crap done like 4.55's (a little high don't cha think?) something like a 100 shot of NOS and a supercharger. I really hate him. after he blew up his motor, and his warranty fixed it (took off ALL the power adders) he sold it and got a '01 Camaro SS. and he's only 20.
