Old airport runway used for racing. Good idea

Around this area they finally did something about the area not having a place to race year round and turned an airport runway into a track for drag racing. The regular track used for racing closes in Nov and opens in Jan or Feb. That's why there was a need for another place to run year round. This is organized(you sign in & pay a small fee), EMS and all . You won't know your 1/4 times but you can run against another car and see who finishes first. Hopefully other cities start doing the same . WE all know that just because the cold weather arrives our need for high velocity does not go away.

May I ask what state the town with lots of back roads is in? From a law enforcement point of view it seems like this would be a good way of keeping the crazy (illegal)street racing under control. When I'm talking about street racing I dont mean two guys racing at a stoplight, but the car after car racing w/ hundreds of spectators. It would be kind of fun to race without times because you wouldnt really know for sure how fast anyones car is without racing them. I would be interested in getting something like this in my area.

That's what we do around here for our autocross events.

We have to play nice because the RCMP driver training is on the next runway.

Who does the upkeep of the land... Sounds good to me!

Just another Question? Was it the local gov or private company who started it?

Thanks

On your first question I would need to find out. On your other question well to my understanding it is a private owner but the local government did get involved in this. The owner benefits cuz he's making a profit and the city likes the idea of having alot of the street racing off the street.

We have a few around where we live but none of them went into something like that mainly because its still government property and that’s really the last thing they want on there property. and one of them was a WW2 landing strip that turned in to a flying field for models, but that would be nice going down that fling field with 3 miles of pavement ahead

they almost did it by us too but, at the last min. the airport found a loop hole and was able to reopen just not as a refueling one. don't ask why the pappers just said this in a few more words.

where in Tx is this? Hennessey Motorsports runs of an old runway/hanger. there's another old airfield(blimp field actually) is used for roadracing/autocrossing out near galveston. I think it's a great idea myself, I'd be game. Hell I've done it.
