You might want want to check the archives on this one, it came up a month or so ago or the Tech/Gen Engine board, there were numerous posts. I've had mine up to 120mph, but considering there is something always going wrong with my car, I was kind of worried. This was when I was racing an Altima to a place to get something to eat.

I did a buck twenty with change(120+mph). The fellow in a brand new Caddie, whom I raced, must have felt humiliated but I didn't feel too good taking a 11-year-old car to such a speed.
There were all kinds of noises.
3rdGens were not meant for those kinds of numbers,IMHO. An IROC or a Trans-Am are not a Supercars.
140mph, with a bit more of 4th gear to go, and all of 5th... 3.23 gears. I wanted to go faster, but I had my window about 1/2 way down, and the noise turbulence was deafening, and I was nearing a spot that's somewhat notorious for cops
Well, according to my tach and the MPH equation on this site w/ my gears, tranny, tire height, etc.= 126MPH. My speedo is off b/c of a recent gear change. That was 5600 rpm in 3rd w/ a 700R4 and 3.42, got there pretty damn quick. I can't wait for the new tranny and WOT shifts into OD
BTW, the car felt very smooth and solid, not scary at all.

I had mine to 148 mph with plenty of pedal left, but my bad struts kicked in and the front end was bouncing a little. Otherwise she did pretty good as far as handling and noise.

I was racing a turbo porsche and he stayed at 135 mph and I pushed my Iroc to over 145mph. The car handled well and the highway was clear cause an accident behind us had all the traffic tied up.
But never again, things ahead of you come way too fast! You really need a clear road to go these speeds.

I was around 5,000 rpms in third. The car is a 5.7TPI, 700R4 with 2.77 rear. There was quite a bit more speed left (4th gear) but I never would have made the turn...
I go back to this track on Friday.

89 RS 2.8 12/3?? Unhooked something in dash, cable speedo still worked must have been vss to ecm ?? 115 speedo pegged out and still pulling with 255/60's on rear so that tricked it some too, 94 Z28 153? speedo ended at 150 went a little past last mark.. *mental note: buy bigger speedometer*
Did around 145 in my old 84 Berlinetta...well, with a fresh 350 anyways. Was coming up to a weird spot in the road, goes downhill, straight for about 10 feet, goes downhill again, quickly, and the car's front tires weren't touching the ground anymore, completely lost steering feel...decided to back off it then...
My speedo stops at 85 mph, but it does 106 through the 1/4. On the dyno, I hit 130 in 3rd before it hit the rev limiter. Not a third gen. but I felt left out

Ive buried the needle in the Iroc. the speedo goes to 240kmh.(I'm in Canada) and I brought the needle almost down to the little odometer button in the middle of the speedo. I'm guessing about 260+kmh. this was my 305TPI and T5. Though I was right in the tachs red zone, maybe thats why the engine puffs blue now. Oh well engines coming out anyways. Oh yeah, and the car handled perfect, now if only the windnoise would go away.

89 formula around 155 or so pulled up beside a 2000 vett on the freeway and we played alittle when I pulled over he did too and told me how fast!!!!!!!!!!
After i swapped my stock 85MPH speedo for a '93 model 140MPH speedo, i took it up to I-95 just belonmg the NH border and opened the car up. It was at the widest part of I-95 (5 lanes) and it was 2AM.
I got all the way up to 140MPH before I let off....damned if i'll ever do that again. I double checked my speed by math and it came out to about 137MPH.
This was with 2.73's
now i'm chicken to go past 80MPH on public roads...just not worth it

NOTHINGSSAFE- 143 in a beretta? 138 in a 2.8 Camaro? I smell bull****. I mean really, the 2.8's bottom end sucks cox. If you had a 2.8 built for NOS, You would have ran out of juice anyway. But then, if you had built a 2.8 why didnt you put a 3.1 in its place, it bolts right in(beretta). or a 3.4, 3.8, or a SC3.8. All will fit with minimal modifacation and are alot stronger of an engine. I'm not trying to make any bad blood between us but come on. Your right that you could build a 2.8 to do that but it would be more worth your while to have put a v8 in the camaro.

Racnoth, you're right, cause your poontang got walked on by the Camaro it was racing.
155mph according to the MPH calculator on this page. 5200rpm in 5th with 3.73 gears. I think it would pull redline (6600) in 5th, really didn't seem to be breathing heavy at all.

in my 3.1, on a small country road...
scared the (poop) outta me...
then 100 the other day on the fourlane... it was sooo smooth.. i loved it... hahaha
but that was in 4th gear, we were on a slight uphill grade and when i put it in 5th she dropped to bout 98
that sucks... but oh well
it was fun
95-100 not sure cause it don't tell me past 85 but I only speed that much on open highways where cops are easy to spot... the dash shakes a little at those speeds, but nothing serious...

the 138 in my camaro is right next to the z28. after we were done, he told me what he was at untill he pulled away. and the beretta is from tailing behind my friends built 5.0 stang. im not tryin to BS, i hate whne people lie , i am just telling you what i know and was told. the reason i didnt do much to the 2.8 in the beretta is cause i was just a poor 16 year old with a 5.50 an hour job and little mechanical experience. trust me, if i knew then what i do now, things would have been much better( and i wouldnt have a blown engine!)

Well, It started with me racing a new Civic Si w/a fart muffler. I tore him a new A-hole and at about 60MPH I slowed down as he was about to do the 100MPH blow by, well not that night. He got up next to me and a punched it to the floor and I hit about 135, he was sooooo far back I let off. Fun times

Had my GTA up to 153 with still about 1/2 of 4th gear left.. backed off when I realized I was doing almost 4x's the legal speed limit (45mph..) I dunno if this counts as a highway, but same thing Gotta love the digital dash.. I swear officer, I was goign with the flow of traffic (!&*^@!&@^

Decently worked 87 GTA; finally got a good time out of her: 12.72 @ 116.4mph
A few of you have said you were doing X MPH and still had half or so of 4th or 5th gear left... this is somewhat false, in top gear you will almost never have the torque or Hp to redline... That is why top speed in a 5 speed is often in 4th gear and 5th gear for a 6 speed, we know that several thirdgens can push ~150, but thats probably it aside from TTA's and other special performance packages... I'd say that's insanely fast anyhow, hope you guys are careful.
Edit, this isn't directed towards anyone, as ben states above he's running 12's... which is MUCH better than stock.

CPC.. I see what you're saying, but as far as my speed you're wrong... I forgot the name of the mod, but it fixes the not shifting into OD @ WOT... but, when winding out, and it shifts into 4th (OD) it doesn't magically stop accellerating Granted it doesn't pull as hard, but it does pull....
