run in with new challenger rt

ok last Saturday I was on my way home from a car show and pulled up next to a guy in a challenger rt at a light, we both went and I pulled about two cars up to about 70 mph and let off I was really surprised at the out come my car is a 89 firebird l-98 mods are ud pulleys ported runners and plenum and a tune from chips of nc. I believe the car is stock besides that, I am the second owner. does this sound normal I read that those challengers are mid 13's, maybe they pull really hard on the top end.

Challenger R/T = mid/low 14s. Not too surprised at the outcome. Don't try that with an SRT8 and expect to come out on top though...

That's like when you go to the strip and so many street cars are running half a second to even a full second slower than they do in the magazine tests.

All too true! Closest I've seen was my buddy's 01GT, tested at14.3. He ran a14.5 with only a cold air and short throw shifter. If we could have got traction that night I believe he would have got it.

Then you have the opposite extreme. Someone that spends a little time tweaking on the "stock" car, running on less tire pressure and pulls down a good 60' time. Good weather and great DA is also key to getting good times. My 2012 2wd Titan bone stock was almost a full second quicker than the magazine tests show. They claim 15.6 and I ran a 14.7, with a CAI, muffler swap, and Hypertech tuner went 14.2s. Ported throttle body and E-fan and it went 13.98-14.00. My heavier 2014 4x4 Pro-4X with only an intake and exhaust went 14.8s.

I've heard that about Titans. And that their HP is underrated by the factory. I've got a Truck Trend where a guy wrote in and said that his MPH didn't match the HP rating and weight.

Yep....98-99 mph in a 5,300 lbs brick with only a CAI, muffler swap, E-fans, 170*F thermostat, ported throttle body and a Hypertech programmer

Re: run in with new challenger rt

It's not bad for a 4x4, I guess, the only time I have ever thought of running an off road truck in a drag race. ... was at a local mud pull!

wow did they gain a lot of horsepower from 09? because my friend has one with a catback exhaust and k&n filter and i can beat him with my LO3 with full exhaust and he gets absolutely destroyed under all curcumstances by my buddy who has a 11 dodge 1500 that runs 15.5s
