Got a question for ya Nic: Is this guy a poser?

No not you of course, but a mustang I've seen around town. It's a white 94-95 mustang (those have the horizontal taillights right). It has the Cobra rims and cobra logos on the side, but the bumper just says Mustang. Can't remember if the hood is the cobra hood or not. I thought the Cobras had Cobra molded into the rear bumper, but did they maybe start that later on in that body style? I'm just wondering because it bugs the hell outta me for some reason every time I see it. Is he a 6 cylinder wannabe, or could he be the real deal?

I believe the 94-95 Cobra's just said Mustang on the rear bumper. They switched it to say Cobra with the mod motors in 96. The hood on the 94-95 Cobra is the same as the V6 and GT's, they didn't start the cool hood until the 4.6 DOHC in '96 either. Best way to tell is by looking at the front bumper, wheels, brakes (they're real big), and of course by listening to it.

Yup...most likely it's a real Cobra. The only real way to tell without looking at the engine is the brakes and the gauges and i should say Cobra on the steering wheel.

Those cobras were 5.0L cobras with Gt-40 heads and a Cobra intake and other upgrades. Ford rated them at 240HP (underrated slightly) and they could run low 14's.

My friend had a 95 Cobra. We would get the "Isn't that a V6" thing all the time by ricers, F-bods and other Mustangs. He has a '99 Cobra now.

Thanks, it was just bugging me. I always see it in the parking lot, so I haven't heard it run, but I'm gonna bet on it being a real cobra.

Guys, this is a little bit off topic...sorry.

A friend of a friend challenged me to a race in his '96 cobra. When I went looking for stats on his car (he wants to put $$ down) Motor Trend said it ran a 14.0. In Your guys experience what do these run? His is BONE stock. Do you think I could take him in the '98 t/a? I think it will be a close race...what do you guys think?

LS1 vs 96 Cobra I think you'd win big time. Those things are severely undergeared from the factory (they need 4.30's or 4.56's not 3.27's) and most people are afraid to run them up as high in the rpm band as they need to be ran.

Good point. There was a guy out at Rack 'N Sack a couple weeks ago claiming his 5.0 was stock...it looked stock, even got him to open up the hood and everything looked stock, but you could hear a little bit of a lope to the cam. Anyway...friend of mine saw him at the track running 12.50's last weekend and said he didn't appear to be spraying.
