Who here suffers from the left arm tan?

I'm sure those of you without A/C have probably dealt with this for years... the left arm tan... comes from having no ac and always having the windows down and sticking the arm out the window... Finally a combo of garbage strike/heat/left arm tan has done it to me... I broke down and got my A/C charged... no leaks! It cools like an icebox (and with a black interior I need it).

I never got around to getting the a/c delete pulley as by the time I decided on it, it wasn't available anymore so these last few years I suffered.. endured heat. No more now... I got A/C.

Oh yeah.. I had a question out of all this ranting...

What do you guys (with a/c) use to insulate the tubing on the A/C? I'm sorta leaning towards home depot a/c tubing soultions... think it'll be a good idea?

The AC in my 83 still works real good. The last time it was recharged was about 10 years ago. Not bad for a 20 year old car.

Pipe Insulation will work just fine Slade.. you know the stuff, looks like dense foam tube with a slit in it. Use wire ties to keep it on, you can make it look real neat.

By the way... I suffer from a Face, Head, and both arms, burn... Today at cayuga was killer.

I don't know how you can tell Slade, you seem to be well tanned j/k I actually spend alot of time outside always something to do when you own a home ( and a black car ),so I get pretty evenly tanned. As for my a/c, it doesn't work, I don't know what the actual problem is, but as you saw Saturday night, it has wires cut and I don't know what else. I guess I should have it looked at, I just can't afford it.

Hey Kev.. trust me.. the left arm and right arm show a significant difference... It's like they aren't on the same person lol...

Kev on another note... I just put 2 and 2 together... you've been running with no egr and you started getting smoke on wot runs... its exaclty what happened to me... cept it took 6 months... check your oil levels ASAP. Without an EGR at city rpms 2000+ to torque max, the egr is supposed to function which is to keep combustion temps down around 5k F... without it temps soar to 7000 F + maybe more since I'm only guessing since at 7 k nox forms and no egr forms lotsa nox. These temps will burn off the layer of oil lubricating the cylinders and make the o-rings scrape the chamber walls.. eventually melting the o-rings and damaging the walls... I hope its only in early stages in that its just losing the initial layer and allowing blowby... At that point replacing the egr and some treatment oils (not thickeners) should help... if not o-rings are a pain in the *** to replace... at worst the whole block (If I put a comment "think the wife will let ya get a 350?" will you survive the week??? hehe)

Uhh, how does divorce court sound to you Well I guess that I should be a little easy on the throttle until I get the new intake on. I will mention this to my mechanic. He might suggest adding Lucas to the oil.

Well I talked to my mechanic and he told me that the egr only operates at cruising speeds not WOT. If I am experiencing smoke at WOT, it is because the carb that I have is causing a washing of the cylinders. He told me to check and see if the oil smelled like gas. I decided to do an oil change and add Duralube. The oil did have gas in it. It was thin. I had been noticing that my oil pressure would fluctuate under hard cornering or jack rabbit take-offs. My mechanic said that a lubricant will help and with my new intake, it will also help, since it will flow better. So I went out and spent a few bucks on Duralube. I have noticed that my oil pressure is a 100% better. My oil pressure doesn't fall any lower than 250 and under load , is around 300. It still smokes abit, but hopefully with the intake , that will go away too.

Lucky you, he's right, the egr only functions at cruising, and if your o-rings were on its way out, then cruising would kill your engine. If he's sure the carb is doing a dump at wot, then that's actually a better thing to happen then o-rings, and the fuel in the oil is a sign of that. If it was o-rings, you'd be losing lotsa oil. Did you check what kind of smoke you were getting on wot, blue or black? the pressure is a little odd to me... constant 200, even at hot idle? Or just during warmup and cruising? Should drop to around 75 when idle and all the way to 400 at wot with 200 at cruising... just a thought...

I rip the AC out of all my cars, whether it works or not. There's something about the smell of car AC that ends up giving me a headache every time.
