1986 Players Challenge Trans AM L69 ( 22 produced )
Car number 55
George Comacchio ( sp? ) drove it
It raced only the one year and part of the next ( 87 )
It is documented by GM from Oshawa
I do have literature and memoribilia to go with it ( jackets etc...)
It is under re-construction
About half done
CSC re fabricated a cage to the drawings they had
Changing color
Not sure of intent yet - it will be street legal for sure though
I have tried to attach some progress photos. Not sure if they worked, these are a little older, will look to get some more udpated ones and post those pics here too.

The car was purchased as you see it. The car had been taken apart from what it was. The wheels, are the factory wheels for a 1986 Players Car. According to the original photo anyway ( attached ). The car itself wrecked on lakeshore blvd in Toronto during the Molson Indy ( picture also attached ). The only way that this is a verified Players Car was through GM and MarkS. After taking some of the paint off, the red is there, as well as some of the original "war wounds".
Through some research and the help of Mark, the original decals have been identified and will be placed back on ( with a few potential others ).
In discussions with CSC ( the fabricator of the cage ). Originally, I think the fabricator was from New York, but after some problems, the work was transferred to CSC in Newmarket. They had the original drawings and built the cage for me and supplied all the hardware.
Hope that helps clear up some of the confusion......
(P.S - the photos have been stolen and deserve credit to MarkS )
Hay man thanx for the elaboration. It just seemed wierd . It looked IDENTICAL to a guys on heres car ( KevsT/A) . I watched a bunch of them races ( usually on before I headed out for school ) .... them races are what made me want an IROC car over a GTA . I loved the Sunoco Camaro the best.
I am glad to hear you are putting on the origonal decals !!!!

Whre are you getting the decals/signage made up at? there are few of us who are looking for some the players decals for our vintage race cars, which are players car.
BTW all the palyers cars got bent! Your wonder bar was REALLY bent!!! Ouch. Mine has a few crinkley war wounds too!! Adds character.
Also waht is the colue code for the grey intehegnine caompartment you are using? this the original colour of the interior sheet metal < i would liek to repaint mine. It interesting that mine was an orginal white car (body in white) with the grey interior trim- 82B and the sheet metal paint in the interior is grey?
thanks
Steve
Sorry dont have the grey color code with me here at work. The grey is not the original color. The original under hood color / body color was red. I have made the decision ( which I may regret later ) that I am changing the color to something else other then the red.
If you are interested, I can get the color codes -
regarding the decals. I am a little ways away from getting the done, but would be more then happy to work with a bunhc of you if there is something in the works. if everyone can wait, I can take inventory and approach some businesses that I have worked with while stock car racing and see what kind of deal we can get for a "bunch" of stuff.
Regarding a source for original decals. I have been in discusssions with a fellow that produced them back in the day and still has all the art work. He's out east. I've seen samples and he appears to have everything except the Player's door and hood decal. He even made the "pontiac" and "Chevrolet" decals that went on the inside of the windshield.
To say the least ... this was an exciting find.
Soon, Player's car owners will be able to put their cars back to the way they were when raced.
... I even have the decal that went on top of the TPI motor recreated ... for those that are missing theirs.
Remember I was mentioning that I had found a bunch of stuff.....but didnt yet have it. Well, I will have it on Wednesday this week. My brother picked it up for me on the weekend. As soon as I get it Wed, I will take inventory and then you and I can talk.....

Hi 86 L69
I don't know if you are interested, but here is a pic of your car from 'back in the day' with George Comacchio behind the wheel. Oh and BTW, you did spell Comacchio correctly (Not too many people do!)
Re: Newbie - 86 L69 - Former Players / GM Race Car
- WOW
Thank you very much for posting - I see that looks to be your first post - and you have no idea how much I appreciate it. That is probably the best picture I have of the car - as I dont have much on it. Mark from the board here has provided me with most of what I have, but that truly is a great shot - a million thanks over - I do have to ask however, was this a picture that you had taken or was it from one of the programs, as it is a great picture. I tried to call George Comacchio about 5 years or so ago - to speak to him, but did not get the impression that I caught him a very good time., and have not yet spoke to him.
HB_03 - thank you so much for taking the time, it is a definite asset to my information for the car, and if you ever happen to trip across any additional information, I would be ever grateful if you were willing to share, and I can even make it worth your while

George is my dad.
I actually found your post through Google while I was looking up something else ~ I rather not go into specifics here, but if you would like to drop me an e-mail, you are welcome to.
Re: Newbie - 86 L69 - Former Players / GM Race Car
Hi 86 L69
I was on George's Race Team back then. It brings back some very fond memories. If you need a little insight, I might just be able to help you.
But unfortunately, George just passed away on Sunday March 23rd 2008. He will be sadly missed by all those that knew him. He was a true gentleman off the Track...but NOT ON IT!!!
