Hey guys, I bought a 1LE D/S off a member here and the u-joint that connects to the diff is to narrow(caps only sit in about a 1/4 inch?). Is there a u-joint I can use in this case? Like one that would fit the D/S but be wider for the yoke on the rear end?

You can get conversion UJoints for almost any application.
Just get a stock replacement for the 1LE shaft if you're still with your 10bolt.
Malmberg sells DANA stuff. Get the solid yoke version for your car...(no grease fittings/not cross drilled) it is stronger than standard replacement stuff.

Oh ok great. I was reading some search material and found sombody saying I need a 1310/3R combination u-joint? Is that the what comes stock for the 1LE/10 Bolt? The guy I bought this shaft from had a stock 9 Bolt, do the 9 and 10 bolts have different pinion yokes? Im confused!lol

The 9 bolts and 10 bolts take the same size UJoint.
I had the 10, threw a 9 in there and the shaft bolted right up.
Compare the new shaft joint to your old shaft joint. I'll bet there is some sort of conversion joint in that new 1LE shaft you have.

To my knowledge the stock joints in a 3rd gen (and 4th) are the Saginaw 3R joint. Check this out: http://www.pstds.com/driveshafts_101.htm I just checked that diagram again and it is mistaken. The 3R joint is measured by Dim A on diagram A. My yoke is 2.5625 inside to inside, not 2.625 (2 5/8")!!

There are three common sizes of u joint PERIOD. They are as follows; 1310, 1330, 1350 with the strength and size increasing respectively.

There are two types of retention clips. Inner or outer. The difference is the outer clips snap in right at the end of the u joint cap into a tiny groove. The inner clips have a c clip type retainer that snaps on over the inside of the bearing cap.

Our cars come with a 1310 series u joint. There are three different types of 1310 u joint. One is a 1310 outer/outer, 1310 inner/inner, or as I was running a 1310inner/outer

Thats it. Plain as jane nothing fancy about it. All you need to know is what type of retention clips you have on the diff and the shaft and get the corresponding 1310 joint. Any drive shaft place has em. You can easily tell if its an inner clip or not by the groove on the inside of the bearing cap. No groove? Its an outer. The inner clips are wider as well. You can get a solid channel joint it is the best for strength.
