dyno day and done for the season

The KW group group had a dyno day last weekend there were a surprising number of 3rd gens showed up. Some rare cars including mine. The LS1 crowd just bowled everyone over with their numbers. But hey I did pretty good for just a bunch of bolt-ons on a 17 year old 350.

275 rwhp
398 rwtq

Surprising tq numbers eh? thats 50/100 over stock depending on what numbers you look to

I am debating on the next step what with the CDN buck so strong a charger or AFRs is so much more reasonably priced. Especially the AFRs -- always wanted a set.

anyway the car is parked for the winter. I should move to the westcoast you can drive year round out there

Palric, what do you have done to get that crazy high torque number?

Not a whole lot. Its a 1990 so it came with big tq its a 5.7 liter. I recall 345lbs factory back in the day. Its a low mileage car so stock was making pretty close to factory numbers.

I did headers, cat-back, 1.6 RRs, u-drive pullies, a Jacobs system and replaced the intake with Arizona Speed and Marine base, LTRs and fully ported plenum. Otehrwise its factory everything else.

I had some serious tuning issues until this spring that were dogging the car. But I worked out some timing problems and replaced the injectors. After that the bolt-ons really started to work. I was expecting 30hp and 40lbs from the intake setup. I figure I got that plus I got the numbers I expected out of the exhaust upgrades.

Its possible the dyno was reading high but then everyone else cars were reading true on the drum so there you go. Its probably worth my while to take it to another dyno for comparison but that will have to wait till next spring.

thx Dan

!! man you know how bad it was the first time to the dyno I think I made 175hp and 275lbs tq. I was ready to quit. I thought I had a 5.0 and not a 5.7

The ignition module was fried, the timing was jumping all over the place the motor did niagara falls at 4500rpm, the injectors were screwing up and the lower intake was plugged at the EGR. Oh yeah my Jacobs coil had a crack in it and was shorting to the fender What a freaking head ache. I was embarrassed.

Anyway I luv the IROC again.

I have been watching the loonie they say it will go to $1.10 next month. At that rate a set of AFRs (previously only attainable by the wealthy elite) are affordable and HUGE bang for the buck. May do a cam when I do AFRs.

BTW -- I swapped out the auto for a T5. I know its just seat-of-the-pants but the car drives completely different now. It has more power. There was nothing wrong with the auto but man the car has more snap with the stick.
