There is plenty of info on this but you should search the engine swap forums or even carb forums. Good choice as the TPI system is only good for a door stop.

It's a pretty big job.. Chuck Fram at AP Racing probably has all the stuff in stock, too.

Re: Considering TPI to Carb

I would like to respectfully disagree that the TPI is only good for proping open doors. They have their shortcomings as everyone knows, but when working properly, I think they work well. My brother drove a TPI IROC for years in all weather and it performed really well considering everything. I wouldn't bother doing it unless your TPI is so woefully screwed that you'll never get it working or you have a need for speed that only a carb and cubic inches will fix. Your TPI should make like 330ft/lbs stock. I've never done it, but I know you will need at minimum:

Fuel pressure regulator to take the pressure from 40-50psi to 7-?...whatever a carb needs, not much.

87 degree head/intake angle specific intake manifold...not just any SBC will bolt on properly to the EFI heads, and the EFI heads aren't really meant to work with a carb, thought they might actually work pretty good, especially in the streetable RPMs.

Fuel line re-routing

Somehow get the dash cluster to work without the computer. This could be easy or hard, I don't know.

And maybe more. Also, the MTO *can* make your life fairly miserable if they pull you over and find a carb and no emissions components where FI should be.

Its just my though, feel free to do what you want.

Re: Considering TPI to Carb

Ive dont it many times. Well from a TPI to a SUperram to a carbed BBC. Its pretty simple and have many ways to get the end result

Requirements
1)Carb
2)Intake
3)TV cable/kick down bracket
4)clamps
5)Distributor,cap,rotor,coil, connector
6)manual lock up switch(toggle switch,wires)
7)carb return spring
optional
7)fuel pressure regulator
8)mechanical speedo/cable or"pulse translator"
9)electric or mechanical fuel pump(if you dont want to use a regulator)

You can take the fuel pump out your tank and just replace it with a regular pickup(al tubing)

86 or older intakes can be used/All you have to do is elongate the 4 middle holes.

You just have to wire up the distibutor(ignition, batt, ground and tach).

Re: Considering TPI to Carb

Well, I think I have fianlly decided to do it.. I just don't have the know how to fix this TPI.. Really pissing me off.....

So I think the project will begin... First I'll start selling off all my TPI stuff and use whatever cash I get and buy an intake and go from there....

What a good Edlebrock intake to buy for my EFI heads??
