I hear that the Ministry of Enviroment "smog patrol" (their phrase, not mine) will be in Ottawa on Aug 10-12. I don't know exactly what they're doing but I'm guessing it's educational in nature, you know like powerpoint presentations, handing out flyers and key chains, stuff like that...
I've never met any third genners that aren't fully compliant but if there are any, next week would be a good time to change your oil and skip cruise night. Or call Canadian Tire first thing tomorrow morning and book an appt to have all your emission equipment reinstalled. Maybe even have a smog test to make sure your car is clean, even if you're pre '88 and don't need one...
I would be going out next week but my wife is working late so I have to stay home and babysit the cat.

They got me last night in Brockville on Blockhouse Island. I was ok, haven't toyed with the smog equipment but the guy in front of me in a mid '80s mustang didn't look too pleased as he waited for the tow truck to take his wheels away!

Im still foggy on this issue of the MOE and stuff. Is there any info on it and why would they tow his car???

You'd have to check the MOE web site. I did, didn't find anything.
I'm assuming he failed the visual check and got towed. If you remove any smog equipment for your year of car then you've violated some smog law. I know it sucks. There was a big flap earlier in the year when the 1000 Islands car club had a show on Blockhouse and they towed away a participants car. Dunno the rest of the story sorry..
why only in ottawa area? havent heard of such thing in GTA or even london. now im wondering, what happen to that ppl that ditch the smog equipment but get a decent cat? as long as u pass emitions, u are fine.

No you are not fine, your car needs all of the emisions equipment it came with stock on your car still if you modify it, for all of Ontario, even if you can pass the sniffer test without it. It is a $365 fine PER infraction

Here is some info for the guy's in York regional,http://www.police.york.on.ca/erase/
we got it real bad here in the Tri-city as the MOE and the OPP team up to do what they call blitz's, they seem to rotate between Guelph, Cambridge, Kitchener/Waterloo and surounding area's. Hell I got stopped a block from my house and I live almost an hour North of Guelph
street race is something to worry about. that im on the opp's side. let see my case my car didnt pass emitions with the last owner, but it has all the smog equipment. i would get pulled over, they would check all my smog equipment and at the end i would have no fines. visual test is only a way of sucking from us. they should stop us and send us to a smog test.
"But Fraser stressed Monday the inspectors are not going after classic vehicles."
I didn't see them pull over anybody else but older cars. I'm guessing the guy the referenced in the clip that had his car towed was the kid in the Mustang I mentioned earlier.

what do they mean by classic vehicles? 87 and before or more than 20 years old?
Another government money grab.. I have a K&N Airfilter, open element on my TBI Car, am I breaking the law? It helped my pass my emissions test because more fresh air leaning out the fuel in the combustion chamber? Wouldn't that help?
Also, I read this before where they caught a Corvette car cruise near ottawa... For an hour, the officer sat there and let his car idle... As as you know, the smog equipment is not functioning at idle.. If I get a ticket, I'll lose my mind..
I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that crap down here. I don't miss Ottawa at all.
Ask people about the one year the OPP had a Take it to the Track event. OPP paraded cars to the local track for a "safe" day of racing, handed out flyers and stuff. Did this for a couple years, until 1 year they ended up setting up a trap at the exit of the track MOE ended up nailing a bunch of cars that the cops just escorted all friendly like to the track.
