Car: 99 GTP Coupe
In North Bay and Ottawa area(Looking to learn)
Hi there,
My name is Carly I am from the North Bay area. I started getting into cars about a year ago with a 99 GTP I have been working on for fun. I decided I wanted to get a project car to play around with and I just fell in love with the third gen Trans Am. I plan on looking for a third gen when I am finished college in the spring. So I wanted to join this forum to do some reading, ask some questions and get a good grasp on what I can do with these cars. I have a fully injected 350 sitting at home that I have intentions for learning and working on.
I am wondering if there is anyone around the area(even Ottawa as I am living in the Ottawa/Aylmer area for the next 7 months) who is familiar with these cars that I could get some mentoring on and maybe have some things shown to me. My purpose for the project would to have a fun drag car I can take out on weekends just for the hell of it and to meet new people. Anyways, I'll probably be doing a lot of reading on here there seems to be tremendous amounts of information. If you are around my area and would like to teach a newbie I would love to learn, not afraid to get my hands dirty. I've done headers, intercooler set up and fixed up my grand prix i picked up as a junker and will probably work on some internals and meth injection this spring. But as far as the platform goes I really want something other than a 3800 so move on to something different and invest my time in a gen 3.
Thanks!

Welcome Carly, and welcome to the world if 3rd gens!! I gotta give you props, not many in the population give respect to the 3rd gens, especially with the huge import craze following. Nice to see the lines of these cars still attract some peoples eyes. Your on the right track, a fun, fast car to play with at the track, but it can also be more enjoyable to just cruise the roads and highways on a sunny day, you won't see many out there on the highways and will probably get a few impressed stares. Especially as the years go by it's getting harder and harder to see any anymore that are nice examples. The aftermarket isn't as vast for these cars as the 4th and 5th gens, but it's there. And there are a few gatherings among this community throughout the year. CCFBG is having one this weekend up around Huntsville(??) for example.
Personally I think the bodylines of the 3rd gen look better than the 5th gen Camaro's do. It's all personal tastes. Nice to see.
So again, welcome and have a ball, these are fun cars when you have a place in your heart for them.

I live in Petawawa, spend a lot of time in Ottawa area.
I may know a thing or two about these cars, just finished an LS1/T56 swap on an 87 T-Top Trans Am.
Give me a shout if you ever need a hand! I'm still learning about these cars myself (working on suspension set up now)

I'm up for a meet up, but since I just completed an LS1 install I'm not up for long trips until I've done some smaller road tests (plus, I'm doing a suspension/steering rebuild and an exhaust system).
Where is the "go to" place now that M&M is over? It was pretty awesome being there, all in one place, but the rice was really heavy early this past summer and I knew it wouldn't be long before we got booted out with all the parking lot burnouts and fly bys... So now they are buzzing around the city in small groups instead of parked in one spot, it didn't really help anything!
