Has anyone ever installed a B&M shift kit in a 700R auto ? I was talking to Marken Performance, and they said it would make the car very responsive when shifting. It cost $65.00. Is this good, bad? What is intailed in doing the job myself with help from a buddy of mine. Any do's and don't's? Any info would be great.

If you go with B&M get the "Transpak" rather than their shift improver kit. It's a more complete kit. I sold mine before installed it so I can't give you any advice on the install other than take your time and triple check everything.
Yeah, that's why I sold my B&M and bought a Transgo kit. The Transgo kits are allmost double the cost of the B&M Transpack but you really get what you pay for. The difference between the B&M shiftkit and Transpack is that the Transpack gives you more manual control of the shifts. It also comes with a filter and a couple of gaskets.
Ok... I've heard a lot about the Transgo shift kit. I was looking at some specs at a transmission rebuilders site... it says it holds 1,2,3rd gear to any RPM... so it's not gonna shift until I let off the gas? I don't like the sounds of that. Forgive me if I sound stupid, but when it comes to automatic transmissions, I AM STUPID, all I know to do is change the filter and fluid, any maybe adjust the TV cable.
I think it's #700. You can intall the kit so that the transmission will not shift for itself. You physically have to shift the tranny by moving up and down through the gears (1-2-D-OD). That is the full manual setting. The other setting will hold the gear to any RPM. For instance, if you start in 1st it will hold 1st until you shift it. However, f you just put it in D or OD it will shift for itself through the gears. It will also allow you to drop into any gear at any RPM. Does all that make any sense? Sometimes I have trouble expressing myself If you'd like I can scan the install booklet from the Transgo and send it out. It also comes with a video.
I'm looking at the transgo kit for my new 700R4. My TH350 holds any gear, and also allows downshift at any RPM. I'm not sure if the previous owner put a kit in it, or if it's just screwed but I like the way it works, and want my 700 to have a similar feel.
So if I go with the Transgo shift kit, do they give you the instruction manual and video? Or did you purchase that seperately? Is this a job that a would-be do-it-yourselfer can do in the driveway? I've worked on my engine and suspension before, but not any tranny work.
HEY NATHAN; I HAVE THE TRANSGO SHIFT KIT AND IT SHIFTS
NORMALLY IN D POSITION BUT YOU COULD FLOAT THE TRANNY
IN FIRST IF YOU DONT SHIFT WHEN DONE MANUALLY. DID NOT
PUT THE SERVO IN FOR MORE SNAP AND THE SHIFTS ARE SOLID
AND CRISP. I FEEL THAT IF YOU GO OVERBOARD WITH SERVOS;
SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE.
I think I got Nathan straightened out this morning. I can relate to his confusion as I was in the same position last year when my tranny died.
You can already adjust the TV cable on your own...check out my website, I've got instructions in the Tech section.
As far as installation of the TransGo goes, I would recommend you get a professional to do it. There's two ways to go about it...The first being to install only a partial kit which can be done while the tranny is still in the car. Or you can install the whole TransGo Reprogramming kit with the tranny out of the car. I recommend the latter as the TransGo kit contains many improved parts that correct the known weaknesses of the 700R4...ie: 2-3 clutch bands which is what failed on mine (burnt out big time)...and many other parts (I can't rememberthe name of them all) It will cost a few hundred more to remove the tranny from the car, but you can be assured of a much more durable one when it's all back together.

No can do on removing the tranny... cause then I get into the "might as well" mind set... and that'll cost too much. A simple shift kit will do. Now, I went to Mr Transmission today, and the guy set that the Transgo kit does not have a Boost Valve, where as another kit called "Superior" does, as well as the corvette servo. I was quoted 500bux max to do the whole thing, including parts.
Hey Nathan, I found this site on the Transgo shift kits. http://www.bulkparts.com/ It is a wholesaler for transmission parts. Don't know if this helps, but it's worth checking out.
