RPM's dancing and all over

I think it might be my battery, does that have anything to do when my car is running and im cruising at low speeds and my RPM gauge is going all over the place, but i dont notice much change in the motor it self, It just started today, my battery is around 12V's, Last night it died on me, and i charged it, then i had to get jumped later in the night. What can cuase my RPMS to go all over, never happened and my car and motor is in mint shape
Thanks
AJ
