I have somewhere around $12,000 in mine, but not anywhere close to what ET I wanted to be at. It doesn't matter, I'm not done yet, and there are things holding me back. You shouldn't get discouraged with your ride, because one day everything will fall in place, and you will have a bad A car...
I finally got some pictures of my car today. I can't figure out how to post one on here though...???
Oh, how did the track session go the other day TPI_ROC?
I think the entire track was weather impared, its 102° out right now (noon) and we have all the smoke here in oregon from the forrest fires.
But without making excuses i ran a 14.1 at 98mph
thats 13.88 NHRA corrected
I think the problem is my stock tpi, sitting on 200cc runner heads, as soon as that LT1 intake is installed I expect almost a .5 drop next time im out (cooler weather, and speed density)
I can promise you that you will be pleased when you get the intake on...when I got the miniram put on, it felt like a total different car...It has been about 4 months since then...loving it still.
You will definately see a big improvement, especially in the upper RPM's. If you don't already have a stall converter, I would recommend one(if you don't have a manual trans.).
Originally posted by tpi_roc Well im still under $10k, but nowhere near the ET I wanted
What do you fellas realistically expect for $10K? I mean a nice TPI 3rdGen could be had for about $2500-3000(in NY). That leaves you w/about 7 grand worth of mods.
I would imagine you could have a 12second(high or low)car for that kind of cash. Is that too much or too little to ask for, for 10K?
what if you bought the car new in 87 for 16,800... does that put me 6,800 behind?.....

AFR190's competition port: $1500
NX nitrous kit with all the goodies $800
LT1 intake: $400
30# or 36# injectors: $300
224/230 comp eXtreme cam: $250
messing with PROM: cost of prom burning software
say up to $3500...
next: Vigilante converter: $700 ($4300)
BFG Drag Radials: $300 ($4700)
52mm TB: $300 ($5000)
Hooker long tube headers and 4" mufflex exhaust: havent chekced lately but say $1000 for all that ($6000)
Okay so you have $1000 to play with. take away for gaskets, ARP head bolts, misc hardware here and there. replacing O2 sensors, relays, etc. You should EASILY have an 11 second car right there. If not then something would be wrong.
What do I mean? Mismatched parts. A 224 cam isnt really a good choice with a TPI, its too much duration and is more for higher RPM power, past the useful range of a stock TPI. The power curve doesnt really start to pick up until around 3000, so theres no point in having only a 2500 stall, it needs to be higher. Thats what I mean by doesnt work.
Read my profile, the 355 wasn't setup for the tpi, it was setup for the LT1 intake (Given the head intake runner size of 200cc) but the tpi was there, and gave me the chance to drive my car, no matter how slow. So now the 355 runs everyday and 14.1's with tpi, and my lt1 intake is slowly getting closer to done, when its on im sure my times are giong to dramatically increase.
