Anybody going low 13's on L98 come in

Hey there. I'm building up an L98 and looking to go low 13's with cam, headers, and convertor. My problem is that I'm having a hard time picking a cam. I'm trying to find someone that's running these numbers with stock heads. Any advice/help is appreciated. Thanx

I personally like the LPE 211/219 cam w/ any LTR TPI setup. Do what your budget allows to the heads (porting/valve job, etc.), heads are critical for making power. You can always go aftermarket when money allows.

Thats exactly what I plan on doing. Keep the stock heads for now, and when money allows, go for a set of AFR 190's. What are the rest of the specs on that LPE cam?

Your chances of going in the 13's would be much greater with the heads ported (opened up to increase flow), a set of headers and a possible gear ratio adjustment. You can build better power with a good flowing set of heads and a crappy cam than you'll ever build with a big cam and a bad set of heads.....

Check out this thread: http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...hreadid=111706

I am trying to run a 12.99 or better on the stock untouched heads and cam. I just removed another 10lbs from the front end and will be trying for a 13.30 on 10/19/02.

Over the winter, I will be adding 1.6 roller rockers,a fiberglass hood and spoiler, PA racing tubular A-Arms, Tubular torque arm, and whatver I can do to make the car lighter without comprimising comfort and streetability.

I think it can be done and if I do, then the car will run at least high 11's with heads and cam.

It can be done. C4/L98 Vette guys have already done it, but it is not known if a thirdgen L98 has done it.

Formula8, Check out a tubular K member also.

Sposed to be 40 lbs lighter than the stock hunk.

If you Do this, we need an extensive write up

I was doubtful of you at first, but you seem to be well on you way.

3 tenths is somewhere between 300 lbs and 30 hp.

I think you can find it

I agree that car set up has a lot to do with the way she preforms. A 13.30 is a great run for a stock breathing system... Do you have headers ?
I just put my engine together yesterday and lastnight.. I've been collecting data from this site, books and anywhere else I could plus I've been a auto tech for 27 years.. I wanted to do it as right as I could.

In my garage sets a 355 cu replacement for my factory 305.

To start with it's got a ported and pollished set of cast 993 heads with 2.02 and 1.6 Manley Pro-Flo valves. The casting is top flowing as per Lingenfelter and others besides vortec. I used forged 1.25 dome pistons to bump up the compression, added the cam that's used in the RamJet motor with a set of Harland Sharp 1.6 roller rockers. While I was porting, I Simease ported the plentum and partialy siamese ported and hogged out the intake like Madmax had done in his tech article. Then I match ported the runners on both ends. everything is match ported.... I also Installed a 52mm Holley throttle body and I built an adjustable pressure regulator. ohh.. and I have an emission legal set of Hooker headers so I can attempt to look smog legal while I'm smogging my car.. 8-)

Plus it's all balanced and stuff.. Can't wait to run it.. will be doing the suspension after this...

90form, Im from the BA, You ever make it out to Sacto Raceway ?

Ill be out on the 26th Most likely.

I personally would have gone with a Cam slightly larger than the RAMJet, but to each his own

The one thing many people here forget is setting up everything properly.

The suspension, PROM tuning, right combo of parts, less weight and more power, and last but not least- traction.

Right now as the car sits, it weighs approcimately 3,300lbs with me in it and a 1/4 tank of gas. That is pretty light for an f-body with power windows, locks and mirrors (which I will not get rid of for the sake of an E/T!!)

The car will be on skinnies and drag radials and front sway bar ON when I run on 10/19/02. I just got my SLP 1 3/4 headers back from Jet-Hot, but I am having a custom setup made after the converters. It may be still on the stock log manifolds at that time. I will post pics of it when it is completed.

BTW, my mods are in the sig.

formul8, You should really focus on getting those Headers on, They are going to drastically Change the Way your car performs.

Once you get them installed, you are going to be thinking "WHy did I wait So Long"

I know I sure did.

Bort, I use to go out to Sac. Raceway alot in the 80's.. In those days John Force ran a car called Brut Force instead of driving for Castrol.. *** I'm old.. LOL... I built my first hot rod in the early 80's. Whole diffrent world now especially on the money end...

The cam, man I wish I had gone to a larger Comp or Crane cam right about now also. I didn't have anywhere near the list of mods I have actually done but hey.. I found this site. I figure I'll give it a try and see how she runs.. I have the engine loaded up in my pick-up now ready for the trip to work.. Man I hope it's slow so I can bring'r to life tomarrow !

Anyway... The 26th, I'll see if I can make it.. Probley can.. What's going on the 26th there ?

26th is the last grudge night of the season, and Hopefully some 13 second passes to shut up some Naysayers for me.

Will depend on the weather and hook, I imagine.

Would be good to meet up. Look for a gold Sport coupe on 17x9 SS wheels.
