Hey , what kind of vehicle do you have that set up in? I used to have a 72 nova with a 250 I6 in it that thing got 20 miles per gallon with a powerglide and topped out at 98 mph. , a 200-4r would have been cool. If a cover from a v-8 chevy 2004r wont fit you may have to fabricate one, or splice one together from the 250 cover and the 2004r small block cover. later , Dave
Thanks bro, I walked the JunkYard but couldn't find a 2004R or walked right by one is more my guess.... I was thinking of asking someone to fabricate that deal. Thanks for the input HOMETOWN...ctown
Thanks a lot HOMETOWN....I'm definitely heading for a tranny shop now that I got the truck back with the 2004R installed from a credible "master" mechanic/fabricator....Although....I have to question his adjustment on the TV cable and I sure don't want toasted clutches....should I even be driving it?
(I haven't thrashed the pedal for breaking in purposes of the trans cluthes and the like, I have only been giving it part throttle, maybe half at the most)
1) First gear feels like a "granny gear" and to my understanding that means that it's a very quick, "funky" reving until the change into second gear. It revs ok up to a certain point and then it begins to bog down/crawl...and then BAM! A big "clunk" and second gear comes into play and chirps the tire...not sure I like that. Don't want to be crusing around town chirping the fuking tire all the time! I trully believe it must not be adjusted correctly. It does not feel smooth up until the shift to third. Is this a natural thing. I'm trying to remember if I have read about the 2004R poor 2nd gear change...better do some investigating...
2) With my brothers OD in his 2001 Chevy truck I noticed whether he's in second gear or third gear, when he thrashes the throttle it always kicks it back a gear...With this 2004R...If I'm in second gear/third gear and jam on the pedal it doesn't shift down a gear. Does one have to do it manually? I thought the TV cable would take care of that or the 12 volt hook-up?
As for OD, it's the bomb! It felt smooth and the revs were pretty low. It wasn't a strong a gear as I had hoped for, but NOW I now it's not a gear for passing on two lane highways/roads....
Make sure the TV is adjusted correctly. Have someone push the accelerator pedal to the floor (uhm...car off obviously) push the tab in on the TV cable and push the movable piece as far towards the firewall as you can. If it won't go to full throttle move it towards the front of the car until you get full throttle movement.
As far as the kickdown thats probably a valve body thing. After driving with a "normal" valve body in my 200 I decided it sucked. I picked up a Monte SS valve body/ sep plate/ governor and installed that with Transgo shift kit. Much better. Shifts firm (not harsh) at part throttle and will chirp them going into 2nd and 3rd. You might want to check out the transmission board at turbobuick.com Lots of good info there. HTH's.
Can't recall hometown but a walk at your local JunkYard and it's a done deal... when I was searching for "something and anything" that would fit the TBI, being new to the game of EFI at the time, I ran across it.
I'm going to add a tube and run the air filter near the battery up front. For a velocity effect...Ctown
80's monte carlos came with carbed 305's and the 2004r(chevy pattern). May wanna look into that...

Once i found out that it was ok to thrash a freshly built trans, I mashed the gas and the difference was crazy...what a gas man! It churps 1st and 2nd gears. It feels a whole lot better now....a whoooole lot better.
Pistol Pete...that combo sounds like the one, I'm gonna look into that. Laters, Ctown
