Plenum Volume - Effect on Powerband?

Hello, Want to get some opinions on plenum volume- For instance take the LT1 intake it is very low I guess to clear the cowl on 4rth gen F bodys. What if it had more plenum volume would that give more bottom end power or decrease it. The Superram appears to have a pretty large plenum and it is a pretty good all around performer right? Except too expensive and possibly a little difficult to install( havent done one myself) Thanks for your viewpoints on this.Dave at American Coating Specialties, Humble Texas just north of Houston 281-446-6203 dhamil@texas.net PS- install in progress on the header set coated in our shop. The GTA should run this evening Yeah.

I can't recall where I read it...I think it may have been on Ligenfelters site, but I recall the article I read said that the stock plenum has enough capacity to feed 450 or 500 HP engines...again, I read it somewhere, doesn't mean it true.

the larger the plenum, generally the more upper end power. The plenum is like a capacitor for the engines air and fuel requirements.
A larger plenum can also make up for a smaller throttle body, the smaller the throttle body the more on the large side you will want to go plenum wise.

Ive seen quoted as a general rule of thumb that a plenum should be 1.5 times the displacement of of the engine. Course depending on the setup that could be higher or lower some people like it to be 1:1 ratio, some higher.

I dont know the plenum volume for a mini ram but your standard single plane carb manifold is typically undersized in the plenum department for most applications
