Is this a good trade?

I was thinking of trading my uncle my iroc for his 93 lincoln town car. Sweet car (for a ford) white pearl, power sunroof, leather, factory cd changer, keyless entry, ect.. I think it has every option avaliablefor the car. The lincoln does however have alot of miles 194,000 but he is a mechanic so I know the car has been serviced and taken care of. Keep in mind I have 4 kids and a boat to tow. I know you all wont want to hear about me trading an f-body for a ford but I just wanted your input. The lincoln does need tie rod ends (which he has already) and has a rear main seal leaking along with a tranny seal. Him and my aunt just bought a new PT Cruiser so the lincoln is just sitting.H eis family and is being honest about the car. Other than the sealsand the drivers side seat wore a little the car is excellent.I have heard a bunch of horror stories about the 4.6. Any info or advice is certainally welcomed.

I'd buy the Lincoln for $$$.. then sell it.

Get yourself a truck to tow the rugrats and the boat with the $$ you got for the Lincoln. If he's a mechanic and takes great care of it, it will show in looks and in $$$ you get for it.

Ever try backing a big, LOW car into a boat ramp to launch a boat? Not alot of fun... especially when it doesn't make it out.

Nothing wrong with those TownCars. Mine had about 350,000 miles on it when I finally gave it up to a junkyard and it was still fully functional and drivable. They're like a Timex watch with an Energizer battery. And a Ford 302? Stout little motor. Too bad the car weighed so damn much and rode on marshmellows.

But... I gave it up for a thirdgen. 'nuff said.

The Town Car should be a very reliable ride. The 4.6 long blocks shouldn't be too pricey if it needs one. No 302 in Town Cars after '90.

Hey all..

If I brought about the interpretation that the Lincoln would not be a wise choice due to reliability, etc.. Sorry, that is not what I meant whatsoever.

In fact, the lincoln would be a great opportunity, especially with the family in mind. But he's got other issues as well, as in being able to tow a boat. Personally, I have been plagued with having to tow a boat with a large car in the past; a Cadillac to be specific. All I can say is.. I ALWAYS looked for an alternate means of towing it to the lake.. i.e. a friends full size truck.

The car's suspension and seals were in great condition and towed it around beautifully. The problem was loading and unloading of the boat at the boat ramp. With a boat over 20', you tend to get the rearend of the vehicle you're driving into the water.

I've had water sucked up through the exhaust because of this which wreaked havoc on everything. Others I knew that were in the same predicament had the same experiences. It was not any fun in the least bit.

What I'm thinking is that for what you can get for a nice '93 Lincoln, you could also buy yourself an extra cab or quad cabbed truck. It doesn't have to be the newest truck, it most certainly won't be for the $$ he gets for the Lincoln.

Check out your local Auto Traders for prices and make some comparrisons..the Lincoln and a truck.. See what you come up with.

Yeah, the cars blow up. Ok that is just the Crown Victoria. If you are going to fix up the 4.6, it is extremely expensive. If I could stress that more I would. If you have to haul kids around, and I had no other choice, then yeah. If you are young looking, it might look like you took Daddy's car out for a spin.

I bought a hitch for the Iroc but havent installed it yet. My boat is a 22 foot aluminum starcraft so either car should pull it fairly easy. I think I am going to buy the lincoln outright and if I like it, keep it. If not sell it or trade it on a truck . Thanks for the help people!!
