What wrench for fuel pressure regulator?

OK, I guess I've got to buy a special, single use torx wrench with a hole in the middle to get the fuel pressure regulator apart right? What is the deal? Can you get this wrench anywhere or do you have to special order it from GM for $500 and wait 6 months?

They have them at most major auto parts stores. I think the size is T-10 or T-15, can't be sure. Maybe somebody else will correct me.

OK, but its not a normal torx you know, those I got. The bolt head has a pin, a male pin inside the hole where the wrench goes so that the wrench must have a female hole in the end of the wrench so it will go down in the head.

I got torx wrenches coming out the wazoo, but none of them have a little hole in the end. Again, the bolt head has a male metal pin inside the wrench hole. so the wrench must have a femal corresponding hole in the end. Whatever..........im going the hardware store

Yeah they are called security or anti tamper and they are pretty easy to find at most auto parts stores around here.

Advance auto parts (where I work) sells them. It's something like $8 or $9 for a full set of the security torx bits. This is what I bought when I did my AFPR. I believe the bit is a T-15, IIRC.

I was actually able to buy an individual insert for a nut driver or electric drill from Auto Zone for a few dollars. I think it was #10. The other auto parts store only had a set for $20. Im not sure what else you need them for. Ive got a normal torx set. By the way, isn't it sort of hard to turn that little adjusting bolt with everythings assemlbed? Im thinking about adjustin the Fuel pressure (without starting the engine of course) before I put the plenum on. Would that work OK? I think the pressure is supposed to be around 43 psi right?

Larry...
I was wondering that myself. I don't have an AFPR yet, but I had thought it would be difficult to adjust after the plenum and all was assembled. Anyone want to share this information with us? THANKS!!

It is a pain in the *** to adjust the pressure with everything put on. Some AFPRs make it easier by having larger "thumb screw" type adjusting screws.. Or like the Holley(?) piece that the whole upper piece spins..

Chalk up another vote for the Holley AFPR here, that serrated adjustment "hat" is awesome. No tools needed, no fitment interference, and it comes with a double spring and double-layer diaphragm.

im just assuming that car is speed density, dont remember for sure, but being 91 i assume it is.

take your map sensor, get a longer vacuum hose and mount it up on the cowl lip. Once that is out of the way the AFPR is a lot easie rto reach.

If you can drill a hole in the end of a Torx driver, you're either using a carbide drill or have some really soft drivers. I got a set of tamper-proof Torx bits for about six bucks from McMaster. Unfortunately, this was AFTER I had converted my FPR.

I have since found that I can get sets at my hardware store (genuine Apex bits), as well as tamper-proof Torx screws. I got some ¼-20 stainless ones for use as license fasteners. Anyone that has ever had a plate stolen (happens a lot around here) would appreciate that.

I just put my AFPR on last night, and the little torx socket they sent me wat too big. You can use a T-10 on it, it won't damage the little bolt or anything, just put a little pressure on it until it breaks loose. The metal is relatively soft, so making it fit wont be a problem.

I bought the whole set since I lost the one that came with my new AFPR long ago. I figured that I'm better off with the whole set. If I ever get the urge to disassemble a bathroom stall while I'm out on the town, I'm good to go.
