Woo hoo, fixed my idle speed

I had bought a new IAC (Intake air control) valve and put it on earlier today only to find my car would not idle after doing so. I was pulling my hair out figuring out what went wrong, so I began to check all the vacuum hoses which is a pain in the rear end and finally decided to start messing with the IAC again I noticed the gasket had not been on tight so I fixed that and tried again and the car still refused to idle and would die on start up.

I was reading the instructions over and over on the replacement valve and they weren't very informative not to mention very crap illustrations so decided to just push the pindle all the way in when installing the IAC. Start it up and now it idles but it was at 3000 rpm, that was twice the amount the old one was sticking at.

I had read in the instructions that on first usage it would idle extremely high and you have to take the car at about 40 mph so the ECM can reset the IAC. Did that and it did not change. I had just about had it at that point and figured why not try to hit 50 mph, who knows with all this trouble maybe my speedometer is reading wrong, I start the car up and wallah im at 1000 rpm idle.

The instructions failed to mention at next startup . Any hoo, I feel pretty damn good, its late and im about to hit the sack. Now I have a question for all you 3.1 Litre manual transmission drivers (I still need to confirm whether I have a 3.1 or 4.3 gonna post pics tomorrow I still have the engine id if anyone can decipher it).

At what speed is the default idle at? I bought this car used and was always sticking at 1500 rpm. Im thinking 800 and if so what can I do to lower the idle as now I will probably have to change my timing and if I need to do that I might as well just set it at the proper rpm. Any help would be appreciated guys and thanks for the advice!

By the way, before I get hammered for being called a moron or such, I am a virgin when it comes to do it yourself jobs, I just now started plunging into my engine. So go easy on me.

There should be an emissions sticker on the underside of your hood. It should tell you what the idle speeds are. I can't help you with specific numbers since I don't have your car. Good luck, and you may want to look into "resetting" your IAC.

I know this is similar to how it's done on my V8, I do pull the "paperclip" out before I start the car though. Also, instead of disconnecting the battery cable to reset the ECM, I just pull the ECM fuse for 30 seconds or so.

Don't worry about the TPS thing on that link.
