Noth Carolina inspections
Does anyone know what kind of inspection is made in North Carolina state? I mean, do they make a pollution test, emissions test or visual inspection or what?
I´m asking this b/c I´d like to run a miniram on my 350 TPI and just found out it has no provissions for EGR, therefore would not pass emissions.
Give some feedback please!

Il ive in Raleigh, right near the airport.
I looked up the dmv site, this thing sucks so bad!
Why some counties can be free of emissions tests and not me???!!!, I´m thinking on moving to a different county, really.

Not that I advocate this kinda thing, but don't you know anyone who can "help" with your problem. You know, someone who can get you that inspection sticker? My "guy" only test the emissions, and then passes me. You should pass everything but the visual, and I don't even know that many garages will know that you have no EGR. I dunno...would they?

I just moved here six months ago, and don´t really know anyone up here o help me out.
My major concern is what could I get for my engine in order to get 300-350 horses. I know a mini ram or superram, stealthram is the best option, but non of them are emissions legal, are they?
Or there is another way to punch out 300-350hp out of my 350 on a 2-3k dollars budget and stay emissions legal?
I don´t konw much about emissions, egr,maf and all that crap, I don´t know if they can be deleted or not.
Another thought that I have is: If I delete all the egr, and all that, drop in a miniram would it pass emissions with a prom chip??

I know for a fact that all of those intakes can pass the sniffer test. Some may need more tuning to achieve there potential as far as power but all should pass the sniffer. I'm pretty sure that the Super Ram is legal, and I thought the others were too, but apparently not. Just checked...the Super Ram is legal. I think the issue is the EGR.
To be honest, if power is what you're looking for, I'd start with exhaust, then move to heads and a cam. For your budget, no reason to NOT change the heads and cam. Changing the intake is only going to yield minimal results without the internals to take advantage of the airflow.

As I originally knew about the emissions deal, I planned my build up based on "legality" so I spent around two months looking up for the best setup on my GTA, and I think the search is coming to an end. The best setup that I´m more decided to go with is the following:
-AFR 190(195?)
-LPE219 cam
-SLP exhaust headers followed by flowmaster.
-ported plenum, ported SLP runners, and ported base (just 1" in, just like member madmax did)
-52mm TB?
-AFPR
-24# injectors?
- PROM chip
I think this should blast me into the 300-350 horses fairly easy.
What do you all think? Am I leaving something behind?
Please give me some input...
I know this is getting out of the topic, But the facts is: I want to get the full potential out of my engine within my budget and more important of all, keep it emissions legal.

nc exhaust regs
anybody know the regs about exhaust exit locations in general for NC, and specifically for a light truck (1981 el camino)????
the NC DOT site has the regulations on-line in PDF format, but exhaust exit location is NOT covered.......

NC DOT response
surprisingly, DOT responded to my email in less than an hour..........here's their response to my email...............
MY EMAIL:
The on-line manuals for inspection requirements do not address exhaust system outlet location.
I need to know what is legal for a 1981 vehicle classified as a light truck (it’s an El Camino)……….is a side exhaust that exits in front of the rear wheels acceptable??? I see some newer performance vehicles with exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheels through some sort of ‘ground effects’ plastic attachment (from the factory I might add), and some hot rod type vehicles with exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheels.
The vehicle in question has a different motor than what was installed originally, but has full exhaust including catalytic converter(s) and muffler(s). The only issue is if the exhaust is required to go over the rear axle. The vehicle has no rear seating or opening glass to the rear of the doors.
Thanks in advance.
DOT RESPONSE:
All exhaust configurations must be the same as the factory built. All exhaust pipes must exit from under the vehicle behind the rear wheels and extend to the edge of the vehicle. Any new vehicle with exhaust in other configurations have been federally tested and approved at time of manufacture. The requirement for the exhaust to exit from under the vehicle is because dangerous fumes can migrate forward when the vehicle is at idle and not moving.
