Has anybody done this? I am looking for some good starter ideas or possibly to just outright copy someones idea! Two requirements I figure in are: 1. Must have adequate flex to fit right and not disturb the airbox. 2. Heat tolerance I figure this would be good for an easy 5hp. A good friend to cut airboxes and a TB foil (two things I have done already). Right so - my initial idea included PVC piping and two silicone couplers - but I am concerned about warping the couplers when they flex. Help w/ ideas, thoughts etc Thanks!

I wouldn't expect to notice the diff from doing it, 5hp is probobly stretching it, but it should deffinately look better at the very least.
I tried this once and ended up going back to the stock tubing. the biggest problem i had was going from the circular maf to the oval TB in sutch a short distance, it you have SD then you've got much more room.
I got a rubber pipe coupler from home depot and it did the trick but didn't fit well, it was 4" on both sides, so the maf side was a loose fit and the TB side pretty tight.

I also did a search on this, and someone got 4" to 3" rubber hose from the Home Depot plumbing section. I do not expect gains with this alone... however, it is more of a "fast pack" type deal.

1. Ram air vents
2. Cut airboxes (of course)
3. Smooth bellow tube
4. TB foil

I figure these mods put together make for significant gain in upper rpms. The boxes forcing air at higher speeds to the k&ns, the smooth bellows reducing high rpm turbulence, and the tb foil serving the same purpose. Not to mention a ported plenum and portmatched stock runners... not a bad slew of "little things".

Don't bother with that home depot hose, it is way too thick and very hard to work with, it is what I used and eventually let me back the stock hose. check this place, it's where we get the cheap smooth bellows "hump hose" for LS1s.

The rubber they use is much more pliable and they have pretty much whatever you'll need.

ok first thanks fake iroc for the link was looking for a place like that.i used a lt1 elbow thats cast from alumium.it was kinda pricey and i dont have a factory serp system to work around.i used this because fit tb perfec and outlet is 3.5 inchs which is kinda comon.i also has a hole in it to use for mat sensor if you chose.good luck eric.

The thing about the LS1 piece is that it is too short I thought. Damn, if the LS1 piece comes long enough I'll grab that up quick.

This is for a dual snorkel intake speed density. Long tube required - does the LS1 piece meet that length?

Get a silicon reducer from http://www.bakerprecision.com. I used a 4" to 3.5" reducer for my custom CAI.

like i said on the lt1 elbow.i dont have a serp belt system which is the reason i can use it.maye if you used a longer peice of tubing it would work.i dont really know as i dont have a 3rd gen i have a secound.good luck.

The LS1 hump hose was about 6" long before I trimmed it, so that isn't long enought unless you used tubing also. You could use two of them, one 3.5-3.5" from the intake Y to a hard tube of the needed length, then a 3.5-4" from that tube to the TB. Kinda like the above pic, just using the stock intake Y still.

Ok - see... that would be way more trouble and money than this mod is worth! However, even if the stuff you can grab at home depot is "tough" to work with, it can't be impossible. Buying two LS1 smooth bellows ($25 a piece at least) and then still having to do more to make it work - $50.00 plus labor for 3-4 rwhp.

I agree, it's not worth spending hardly anything on this mod, especially 2 hoses and hard tubing. I was just throwing stuff out there. Personally, I'd like to see the traffic cone done, i'd even leave it neon orange!

Hehe anyway - I am going to continue this struggle. Whatever solution I find ( and I WILL find a solution) whether it be home depot or traffic cone... I will let you guys know. Cause this is yet another free mod and we all LOVE those!
