I sat in my car today, with the engine running...and I heard a "ticking" noise coming from underneath the hood. I popped the hood....and still heard it. I recently installed an under hood Autometer fuel pressure gauge with 3 feet of steel braided fuel line...it fits directly to the shrader valve. I grabbed the fuel line...and I can actually feel the "ticking" noise. I thought maybe there was a small kink or something...but the fuel pressure is reading fine...it dosen't jump or anything. Does anyone know what could be wrong? The ticking noise is driving me crazy

I bet that your increased fuel pressure is just putting a larger load on the injector pintles, making the solenoids make more noise.

Try using a screwdriver to locate the source. Put the handle against your ear, and the tip against various places that the ticking might be coming from. It'll act like a stethoscope, or the famous glass on the wall trick. If you eventually get the tip right over the ticking source, it'll come through the screwdriver and into your ear loud and clear. That will at least tell you where it's coming from. I did the same thing to determine that my injectors were making my ticking noise. Just make sure you don't loose a piece of your face in the fan belt.

i have the same "ticking " from the injectors and i can feel it thru the whole fuel rail and fuel lines , dont know why its like this ?

atleast I'm not the only one getting the noise....I thought it was really weird though....and it's pretty noticable in the interior...

the injectors always make some ticking noise, its normal. Try turning your fuel pressure back down, and see if it goes away.

I started getting the same noise when I originally installed my StealthRam. It was audible in the interior and you could feel it in the braided fuel lines. It sounds like amplified injector tick to me.

Yes, some ticking is normal, but it should hardly be audible, especially inside the car.

you say to turn it back down....but I never touched the pressure......I don't have an afpr yet....is there anyway to get rid of the ticking?

if your running the stock fuel injectors on a thirdgen, you should get new fuel injectors. ive seen fuel injectors go bad at 15,000 miles... lord forbid your running the same stock injectors at 150,000 miles

who said anything about 150,000 miles? only 79,000 here...

79k on stock fuel injectors... i'd say replace them. i got a set of 24# svo's on ebay for $155... you could get a set of slp 25#'s for $100 off their website at slp

honestly, i'd go with svo's. search TGO and you'll find users who are complaining about their bosch injectors (slp). do the same search for svo's, and i doubt you'll find anyone talking negatively about them

but it never made any noise until I installed the gauge and fuel line....I really doubt my injectors are bad or anything.....I could see if it made a noise before...but it didn't...it was fine. Whenever it get's nice..I'm just going to take it apart and re-route the fuel line....that might cure it.

what you said makes sense, and at the same time, it doesn't.

what if by chance one (or more) of the injectors decided to fail or act up at around the same time you put the fp guage in? can't rule out the injectors just because you never had a problem with it... you have to rule them in because they're old and probably need to be replaced.

alright..how would the car run? would it not run good? If an injector goes out...it just makes noise? it dosen't run bad?

i have 140k on stock 85 injecotrs and ticking came a while ago chould they be bad , i am i having problems chould be injectors????

I see no reason to replace parts that may not be bad, thats not the proper way to diagnose. You need to start isolating things to narrow it down, Id start by unhooking the gauge and seeing if the noise goes away. If you are worried about your injectors, get a multimeter and measure the resistance of the injector coils, should be around 16 Ohms.

I got my SVO 24# injectors of eBay for $150 so I'm going to assume we got them from the same source. That'd be a route I'd take also if I were you.

it's weird..because the ticking it pretty loud in the car. When I pop the hood...I can barely hear it...but I can feel it in the fuel line.....it's just really weird....

have you tried taking off the fp guage to see if the ticking stops?

not yet...that will be my next step. I'll have to put my valve core back in the shraeder valve to take the gauge off

the reason it's louder in the car is it's probably coming form the gauge which is in the car connected to the line you have run to the fuel rail.

nope....my gauge is an under hood fuel pressure gauge....it's all under the hood....nowhere near the interior.

i just took the line loose...re-routed it....and it's still making that noise. It is just really weird cause I can't hear it one bit under the hood....just inside the car.....I guess I'll just take it out...

see where my fuel pressure gauge is? Well I can feel the ticking/clicking in the braided fuel line from the guage, what makes mine do it the line is in between the fiberglass hood and the car theres a small hole there I made so the line wont be so tight in between them both and it stopped. In fact I noticed thats what it was when I opened the hood it would stop.

I would check and see if the line is up agianst the car frame or somewhere touching.

I just want to bring this thread up because I'm experiencing the same knocking sound coming from my Autometer fuel pressure gauge and Holley FPR (TPI). I can feel the ticking in the braided fuel line between the fuel rail and the gauge.

The gauge is located under the hood, but I can hear the noise inside the car, it sounds like something is wrong becaue it's quite noticable.

In this thread, people are saying it would be the sound of injectors, but I was wondering if it could be sign of a problem with the fuel system?
