Here's a pic of the 2 and 4 intake ports.
I also found this! This casting is so thin that it will surely break off and fall into the intake ports!! I'm going to have to break this off before putting the intake on the motor.
Does the Ram-Jet MAP sensor work with a 1227730? or do you have to use the L98 MAP? I have a new intake and used throttlebody here trying to piece everything together. I've had the heads for a while and I think I'm going to use a ZZ-4 camshaft.
I think the Ram Jet MAP will work, but I can't say from experience. I have all the parts to finish this motor except for the roller rockers...I'm getting a little upset about the wait. Hopefully by this weekend I'll have the motor running.
Here's the latest progress (still waiting for the rockers).
The March 2004 Car Craft article seems to be wrong. They said they drilled out the pushrod holes to 3/8". I put a 3/8" drill bit in each slot with a lot of extra room.
Originally posted by APACHE JOHN A guide that slips in 1 side of the hole so you can drill the other side.
I'm still confused. I put a 3/8" drill bit in the hole to find out that the hole is larger than 3/8". The article I read said to drill it out to 3/8"...the hole is already larger.
I'll try to get the throttle opening size tonight.

The guide is to make the hole become a slot. It becomes oval shaped. When at higher lifts, the pushrod can contact the pushrod hole, therefore, you make it a slot to make more room.
I'm pretty sure the lifters and pushrods will work, but it never hurts to be exact!

what you need is a pushrod hole elongation tool....the tool slips in the existing hole and acts as a guide to hold the bit just on the edge of it.
that way, you drill your round hole into a oval.. and the oval allows more lift.
Originally posted by S10Wildside I purchased this setup to make Ram Jet harnesses and possibly do some programming with the stock Ram Jet setup. This is why I'm building the motor to the Ram Jet crate motor specs. I was tempted to put a LT4 hot cam in there, but I ordered the Ram Jet cam to stick with my plans. After I get the motor running, I'm thinking about selling it complete with starter and all accessories for $4,000. That's a great deal considering the Ram Jet crate motor doesn't even have a water pump and is about $1000 more.
Yes, the crate motor DOES come with a water pomp. It even
comes with spark plug wires, air filter, spark plugs, oil filter
and everything else to wire up the motor with. It's more
complete than you think!

GM must have the worst picture to advertise the Ram Jet 350. It shows no water pump and the fuel rails are on backward.

Yes, I agree! The motor DOES NOT come with an oil dipstick,
however there's one pictured in there!
The T stat housing is NOT chrome plated either!
The engine coolant temp sensor is on the opposite
side.

After a bout with the starter and flywheel, I tried to start the motor today. It sounds like it cranks too easy. Twice I heard some sort of minor backfire out the throttle body. Tomorrow I'll loosen the rocker arms...maybe the valves are open.
*Update
I loosened the rocker arms a bit and the motor ran for a short while. I'm going to readjust all the valves this afternoon and I expect it to run just fine. My batteries died last night from all the cranking (even stole the battery from the Firehawk).

So that's on a 1227730 with a stock chip? and it idles well? have you had a chance to check the BLM's? I was wondering how the 109 lobe center cam would work with SD. Very cool!

I was given a bin that Street and Performance supposedly burned for a 383ci Ram Jet. However, the cylinder volume in the bin was still set for a 350 application and the numbers weren't much off from a stock AUJP bin. I won't have the opportunity to test this motor under load, but it runs great on the test stand and responds very nicely to the throttle. I'm sure the bin needs tweaked though. Even if I ordered a memcal from Street and Performance for a 350 Ram Jet, I'm willing to bet it would still need reprogrammed.
WOW! I can't wait to start my Ramjet 350 up! I am still
working out some bugs not even related to the motor.
My power steering pump needs to be removed and taken
apart to reseal. It leaks out the back and it's not the line
going to it. Also my pinion seal keeps leaking out from the
bottom lip off the housing. Was aftermarket seal, now I
installed a factory GM one. Hope that's all set. Once those
leaks are fixed and once I get an upper rad. hose to fit
right, I can move on to the wiring of the motor and start
up the freakin thing! Wish me luck! :hail: :lala:
Just wondering if you might be able to make a harness to hook the RamJet up to a MegaSquirt ECU i want to put FI on my '85 with a 383/425 GMPP Long Block and the RamJet would be perfect, but I want to be able to make changes and adjustments without having to burn PROM's....

I'd rather not. It would be very straight forward for you to just use a stand alone harness (whether it be one of mine or someone else's) and make the changes for a mega squirt ECU.

[b]I finally got this motor running. The link to the video is below. The motor idles very steadily at 700rpm and it's very responsive.
Great Job!
Thats an interesting engine setup you put together. Too bad you can't take it for a test drive. I'll have to stop by and see it run. I want to see how smooth the idle is. Did you make any changes to the bin file?

I'm very impressed with the way this motor has been running on the test stand. Feel free to stop by to check it out. You're only about 60 min from my house. I'm 5 min South of I-90 in Erie at Rt 430 (Station Rd).
Congrats on finishing up the project! Sounds nice, I played that video over about 5 times in a row just to hear it purr. My wife finally said thats enough.
Anyhow, I finally got my RamJet setup in the mail, actually this morning. It's beautiful! Man, a very nice piece altogether, IMO.
S10, can I ask you a quick question if you woudln't mind giving me a lead here....for the fuel hookup, would you be willing to share what sizes/type of fittings are needed for the regulator and the fuel rail inlet? I'm not too keen on fuel fittings. I would guess NPT, but I really have no idea. And I don't really want to lug my whole setup into the hardware store, nor tear it apart to take just the rail/regulator. Any info appreciated!

The Ram Jet kit I purchased from GM comes with the -6AN adapter for the fuel pressure regulator. I would assume there's a GM part number for it, but it might be easiest to order that piece from TPIS. Just tell them you want the -6AN adapter for a LT1 fuel pressure regulator. I think it's about $15.00.
The fitting on the back of the passenger side rail (fuel inlet) is a NPT to -6AN fitting. Aeroquip makes this fitting. I don't have the part number anymore.
You'll have to use two 90 degree -6AN fittings. The fitting on the passenger side just clears the distributor cap. It's so close that you can just slip a piece of paper through the space between the fitting and distributor cap. You might be able to get away with a 45 degree fitting coming off of the fuel pressure regulator, but you'll be happier with a 90 degree fitting.
Expect to spend the following:
$25 Fuel Pressure regulator fitting (from TPIS with shipping).
$30 Two 90 degree -6AN fittings
$10 NPT to -6AN fitting from Aeroquip
Thanks for the info, much appreciated! Now the -6AN adapter your talking about, do you mean the aluminum male/female piece that came on the regulator already? If so, ya I have that so that's one less thing I need. So you say that is -6AN, that helps a lot, so then the only thing I need to figure out is the NPT size on the back of the fuel rail and get a NPT to -AN fitting and run my lines. Thanks again!
The Ram Jet engine is on ebay. Hate to see it go, but I also hate to see my Firehawk looking like this. I'm selling the Ram Jet engine to finish the Firehawk restoration.

OUCH! I am sorry to hear that. The RAMJET is a nice
looking motor! I love the design of the intake. Got a
link for the auction?
BTW, I will be PMing you S10Wildside, for a question
about the timing on the Ramjet motor.

Well, the project is over. Someone in Tennessee purchased the engine from me. I loaded it in my truck yesterday and dropped it off for shipping. My Silverado SS only has 345hp/380lb.ft. and I couldn't help but feel a little jealous that it was hauling a 350hp/400lb.ft. engine. The next project is to finish the Firehawk.
So this thing actually fits with the power bulge hood without cutting any braces? You got any pics underhood? I was going to to do the ramjet two years ago then the HSR came out and then the Vortec unit. How did you manage to get the cables setup for the TB? I still have a Vortec TB with IAC and TPS I can use.
I'll try and get some pics next time I am home. I have some of the engine sitting in the car, do you want the actual hood almost-closed on it or what?
No cutting is required. I used a Lokar braided SS cable for an LS1 for the TB to pedal.
It's not tuned yet. Haven't found much time to mess with it lately, the dist. needs a new ignition module right now. It runs but I haven't driven it any further than out of the garage to prevent asphyxiation. Lemme see if I can find a pic here....
Ah, here we go.
There's a lot of loose ends yet, and the car is filthy, so don't mind that...that's what happens when it sits in a garage for a year.

The crate 350 PFI Ramjet motor runs awesome. Only
need to break in the motor and go. NO tuning at all.
Powerband is great. Need to run custom lines, cables,
etc. Fr my motor, I made custom fuel lines and
modified an LS1 cable to fit the gas pedal to
throttle body.
Also, must cut braces on a Camaro hood to clear
the intake. Cannot use a STB either.
Yes, it IS my motor mounts. I am using All poly mounts
and bushings on the car. The polyurethane mounts
increase the height to about 1/4"-1/2" more than stock.
The down side: had to cut the braces in my hood (big deal!)
The up side: increased clearance for my 1 3/4" headers.

12370839 1.6 Roller Rocker Kit
10241740 Push Rod (different than 87 TPI motor part number)
17120735 Lifter (different than 87 TPI motor part number)
14097395 Ram Jet Camshaft
I'm going to shop around this week and possibly order the parts. After I get the motor running, I can have the mass air (1227165) harness built and tested in a day. It'll probably idle, but if not, I can burn a custom prom. Wish I had an engine dyno.
Is the part number for the heads listed above the same as the casting number? If I order that part from GM will I get a fully assembled head?
