I went to Kestone Automotives trade show here in Atl and BBK had this intake on display. The guys didnt know much though. I also looked inmy '08 catalog and there is a part number for it. It seems to be getting closer.
Not trying to give you a hard time, but there is NO WAY that the (1) existing TPI intake prototype was at the Keystone show.
You are correct that the guy who rep'd the show doesn't have deep tech knowledge though.
What page in the '08 BBK catalog has a part# for the TPI intake BTW?
I just looked at there catalog on the web and didnt see it or even a hint of it, but i remember last year i was looking through there online catalog and it was under the new products page, and that was the last time i saw it, me myself i perfer HSR who cares about emission.
No kidding. Seems to be a bit premature putting it in magazines and catalogs if it's not even out of the prototype stage. Where exactly ARE we on this? I am a week away from putting my modded TPI intake back on my car. If this thing's going to be out in the next couple months I'll budget to buy it immediately.
has anyone ever called bbk about this? is there a substitute for this setup that costs about the same??
Everyone and their grandmother has called BBK about this.
It should be out closer to the end of summer this year.
The marketing dept. is always a few months ahead of the rest of us since they have to get the advertising out before new items become available so they don't sit silently on the shelves with nobody knowing of it's existence.
Plus the catalogs only get printed once a year, so they have to look months ahead to make sure they have everything possible covered.
I still like the look of the HSR, but then again BBK claims you can bolt on 50 extra HP with just that intake , according to the flyer that chikn305 posted did anyone catch that besides me . now if thats the case give me those extra ponies and i'll keep my hood close.
Bryan, any results from the manifold installed on the modified motor?
IMHO 50HP is a lot to ask just from an intake manifold change. However coupled that with Dyno Don's headers and wye pipe along with a cat back then yes. Than add the AFR heads, a cam and look out. 350RWHP anyone?

Be sure to check out the dyno graphs I posted on this thread a few pages back and read the tutorial on how to read a dyno graph that is posted with it.
I figured BBK can stick it. They told me about a year ago that it would be on shelves by now. And that it would cost $699.99. So i went and bought a miniram. I figure if they are gonna D%^& all of us around they can lose my business.
The peak HP claim could be at at higher RPM than TPI can pull; like the HSR, the extra claimed horsepower was in the RPM range where the TPI had already fallen off. "xx horsepower more" was at 5000+ RPM where TPI started to die, not xxx more horsepower across the entire RPM range. As with most engine modifications, there is a trade-off involved. Can the average L98 TPI (which becomes a plain 'ol 350 without TPI) stand the loss of some low-end power? ..................................Only if you want to be able to apply the power in a useful manner.HSR install pending..............................stay tuned! -Bill
it will make 50hp or more peak to peak on a hotter engine build like a hot 355 or 383 when comparing stock TPI to this intake. It SHOULD gain a good bit of power over aftermarket long tube runner TPI setups too based on the shorter runners.
And yes i aggree it seems like a bad idea to put out the product idea WELL in advance before a prototype is made. I kinda like how edelbrock released the new Flow Pro XT or whatever setup that is. It just came out new for 08, and they already had it in production
well, if it doesn't, they made a mistep because now pretty much the whole 80's and early 90's gm crowd is waiting to see this thing, it's not exactly under the radar.
picture a concert where everyone's waiting to see the opening band, and they're taking their sweet time coming out. and then some more time, and they keep sending a sweaty stage hand out to say "five minutes guys, just five more minutes" an hour later people are getting tired and start b!tching to each other.
Three possible outcomes, the band comes out, kicks a$$, and everyone forgets they were pissed. the band comes out and they suck and the allready pissed crowd seriously hates them, or the band doesn't come out at all. they're past the point of no return, now we just need to see if the performance is enough to wipe people's memories or if bbk is going to miss out on what's going to be the next trend of vehicle restoration and customization.
the big mistake that was made was the extremely early leak of the info about this thing. if this was the first time we were hearing about it most of us would be searching the house for quarters right now.
One reason to get the word out early on it is to see how much interest there is. In this case maybe a little to early. However there appears to be a lot of interest and I think the intake system will sell quite well.
Well, reading this 14 page Thread has been like reading a very exciting book that I, Myself, get to benefit from at the end! Yey
I am new to the TPI system's, but learning more every day.
Let me extend my personal thanks to Bryan for finding this website and being willing and able (thanks to the boss's) to share what is promised to be a very exciting add-on to our cars.
I am sure I'm not alone in saying I can't wait for the release of this product!
Will definitely be buying one when it FINALLY hits the freaking shelves, however, I'm still not feeling it's "Turtle-Ram" nickname. Since Bryan is the representing factor here, I think he should throw out a more suitable nickname for it. You must have been contemplating something all these months, whaddya got for us Bryan.....?

Edelbrock has yet to ship a ProFlow XT and according to them yet to establish a price. They seem to be in the "it will ship next month mode" for the past several months. Edelbrock hasn't been perfect either. It was shown at SEMA 2007 and still isn't in production according to Edelbrock.

why does it have to have a nickname? I just call it the BBK intake cause thats what it is. Turtle Ram in seems negative to me. I think it looks great and can't wait to show it off under my hood.
^ Couldn't agree w/you more, but we all know that it's eventually going to get tagged as something, so why not let Bryan decide. Calling it the BBK intake is coupling it with a whole other batch of intakes that they offer, so why not let the TPI version stand out, and be a tad more distinct....
when money becomes less of an issue there will probably be one under my hood as well, i don't mind loosing some low torque to have power i can use in 2nd 3rd and 4th, always irked me that cars i destroy shamefully off the line could put up a fight on the highway where i'm usually driving.
I wouldnt wory about the pricing. If its under a grand thats all you need to worry about. Its worth every penny under a grand as long as it flows around 260+ cfm and has superram like length runners, and is emissions legal

^ Under a grand, hopefully implying the $500-$600 range, and not $900. Here is BBK's new 5.0 intake design, with a selling price of $600 (charcoal), and $700 (polished upper)....
I think Bryan will need permission from "the boss" to give out pricing information. I'm gratefull for the information he has given out. I agree that the price most likely will be in the $600 range. If it performs as expected that will be a bargain in this day and age.
Alright Mr. Moneybags, I understand the "good, fast, cheap, pick two" rule, but a big part of the allure of this intake is that it's all-inclusive for one low price. It's not like the Edelbrock system where you have to buy a $400 base and $400 runners.
I guaran-gosh-darn-tee you they'll sell 20-30% MORE units right off the bat if it's priced where everyone can afford it.
You wall want to save money and thats understandable. But when it comes to performance products for these cars, especially intakes, 700+ is not that bad of a deal.
TPI stuff from base to throttle body is around 1000-1100. The best deal going for TPI is the FIRST TPI setup for 1000. Includes base runners throttlebody.
Out flows the other stuff by longshot. Suprised no one is really using it.
Alternatives to LTR TPI are superam, stealth ram, miniram
Superram was 1000-1200 as well new, without TB. Used are around 500-700 still i believe. Miniram is what i think is overpriced for 1200. Stealth ram is best bet for 650 with fuel lines for TPI cars, ready to bolt in. But 2 of these 3 arent emissions legal
All of those intakes are abit higher priced than what i would expect to pay, but if you want good performance save your money and get the good stuff. Like i said TPI stuff is 1000 bucks with new throttlebody. 700-800 without. You want an alternative to TPI for better performance and arent willing to spend the same? Whats up with that... some things are too good to be true, and a better, new designed intake aint gonna be cheap
BUT i would expect that intake to run in the 600-700 dollar range and would think thats somewhat fair priced
Take into consideration the fact that it is emissions legal. One of the, if not the, main reason why Holley kept the stealth ram w/out EGR was the amount of money needed to be forked over to the facade knows as the EPA. It costs millions to get things approved, which would have upped the stealth ram's price very substantially. If BBK keeps the price in the 600-700 range, while retaining EGR, then that is one smoking deal if you ask me (in comparison with the overpriced miniram)....

amusing.... everyone's waiting in anticipation for it to be released.... how about start saving a couple bucks a week away for it. Skip that extra Mountain Dew during the day lol. By the time it's ready for release you'll have a nice bundle of cash ready to go and if the cost ends up being more than $400 it won't seem so bad since you saved up already rather than trying to suddenly scrape together a chunk of change.
