Crankshaft Question

My crankshaft needs to be reground on my 350 engine because it has a few chips in it from when the piston broke off...but my question is, since i have to get it reground, would it be possible if i just got a 400 crank, and got that reground? would that be a direct bolt on, or would i have to get something cleared to get that thing to fit? also i have 2 bolt mains, will the block be able to handle that extra stroke? i'm plannin on about 400 hp, so that shouldn't be too much for a 2 bolt main block, or should it? i need to know ASAP, because we are going to talk to the guy tomorrow (friday) and see what we are gonna do....how much do used 400 cranks usually go for anyways?

A stock 400 SBC crank has larger main journals. You would also have to use different rods and pistons. You could get a stroker crank with "regular" SBC mains sizes (2.45") but would still be shopping for pistons and rods.

You can get one from summit for $189.95. Youll need pistons specifically for a 3.750" stroke (5.7 or 6.0 rods). youll need to clearence the block at the oil pan mounting sides for the longer stroke. You'll also need to check and make sure piston skirts clear the crank. The 2bolt main block should be just fine for 400hp. Wouldnt hurt to get new main caps and bolts. If the chips are deep i wouldnt recommend even fooling with that crank anymore. Just my preference.

i didn't know that much work was invovled in making it a stroker, but now i know...it doesn't look like i'm gonna do this, because i don't have a bunch of money to spare, cuz my car is in pieces, and i have priorities...so i'll just replace the pistons, and go see what my dad's buddy says about the crank...thanks for all the input tho.
