oil pressure oil leak

Okay 2 questions in one My oil pressure is in the 30 when cruising and about 15-20 in gear at stoplight.

I was told that an oil leak will cause the oil pressure to drop. I have a leak from my rear engine seal next to the trans....

1) Is it true that it will effect pressure? I would say it drips a few drops slowly.

2) I was told engine must be removed to change the seal.... True? I dont think, but might be misstaken.

Oh, onwmore question, i used 15-40 oil. Is that okay? Thought it might help abit with my pressure problem.

The engine is an 88 305 TPI

thanks,

Sam

If I'm not mistaken, the minimum oil pressure is 15 @ 2000 RPM. If you have 15 at idle, you should be fine. Oil pressure is caused by intentional restriction, mainly your main, rod, and cam bearings. Most oil pressure loss is due to excessive clearance in the bearings. Don't rely on your dash guage for a reading, use a master guage to be SURE of your actual oil pressure.
