I just bought a 91 z28 5.0L tpi car. I was told the car had a fressh 350 engine that was bored .040 over. anyhow i bought the car from a friend because it's getting coolant in the oil.
What i want to know where should i start checking to find where the leak is. I don't think it's head gaskets due to the fact there is not any compression in the radiator blowing the coolant in the overflow tank.
BTW if i have to put a engine in it . i got the car for a song 1000 bucks so i can afford to spend some monies on it
I had the same problem. the intake is a mother on our cars and requires a bit of attention when placing it on the car. get new bolts use lock tight and wait about 20 min for the RTV to set before placing the intake on the engine after torqueing in the proper sequence let the car sit overnight.
If the car is an automatic it could be a bad radiator, the trans cooler for the automatic transmission is mounted inside one of the end tanks on the radiator, a small pinhole in this coolant tank can cause oil and coolant to mix with pressure differential changes in the oiling and cooling system at different RPM, check it out.
I found the problem head gaskets. i tore the top end and pulled the heads and both gaskets were leaking.
one thing i noticed was i don't think the head bolts were torqued down to spec beacuse they didn't crack when i broke them loose it seem to me like it didn't take 40 ft lbs to break them loose.
could the stock bolts have relaxed from the heat from being to hot making them be loose?
yes they could have relaxed but they could also be worn out. spend the extra 30 dollars and buy new head bolts and while you are at it get new rocker adjusting nuts, these wear out too. take your time putting everything back together.
It takes more time to take it apart again than it does to really dial it in the first time.

I could be mistaken (again) but isn't most "ATF" made of oil? Or are there special fields, rigs, derricks, and refineries that are dedicated to producing "ATF?"
Whale oil in the transmission? THAT is probably my problem. The car sometimes feels like it's 60' long and weighs 80 tons. All I need is different oil?
