Tpi Air Flow Meter Question - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

I have seen a different air flow meter in 1993/1997 TPI Camaro/Trans Am's than in the 1989 Trans Am's.

Does anyone know if one can swap the newer , shorter air flow meter into the older TPI's?

It seems that the newer air flow meter is about half the length of the older "Bosch" style meter.

The TPI MAF sends an analog voltage signal (0-5VDC) to the ECM to indicate air flow. The LT1 MAF sends variable frequency signal (0-10KHz) to the PCM to indicate intake air flow.

There was a company offering a device called the "MAF Translator" that allowed the use of the later MAF in the TPI systems. It was basically a D/A signal converter. They were about $179 the last I saw them. You can get a complete new MAF for that much.
