question...I recently had my oil changed in my car. Also had the guy pull out my crank sensor and replace the o-ring since it was leaking. Now my car runs rough like it has a constant skip at part throttle, its running way rich according to my wideband, and its WAY down on power.
Is there some certain procedure in dealing with removal/installation of the crank sensor?

No certain procedure. Very straight-forward. Simply pull it out and put it back in.
did that. Car still runs like crap. No codes at all. Now I have a turn signal indicator glowing when I get on the gas so im thinking maybe all this is because of a dumb ground issue.
I have my harness finished but im having problems finding the van file the tuner found one on holden crazy 02 express tried to load it but it was no good any suggestions would be great thanks
thinking about startin my OBD2 swap finally. about how long does it take from start 2 finish on the average?
ive been messing with mine for a month.. but this dude took forever to trimm my ballancer i modifyed a 99 truck harness along with the t/c cover and reluctor wheel

I just finished a clean, stock 02 Express and re-flashed my PCM. Shoot me a PM with email link and I'll send it to you.
I took out EGR, VATS, Cannister, Fuel tank and gauge stuff that is needed for 96 up trucks, but not older vehicles.

hey guys: I have just finished my 1997 K1500 to TPI'd 327 conversion, and having a lot of issues with the tune. I think the tuner blew it, it hunts for idle, stalls at stops, backfires, stumbles at cruse, lousy millage.... it goes on and on. I am currently using the stock 1997 Vortec ECM, since I am not planning to turn over 5500r's. But I do have a 411 ECM in my possesion and could use a good tune for the Vortec unit or assistance with the 411. at this point the 411 lis looking best as It may need to go on the dyno to get tuned perfict??? any help would be greatly appreciated The Racer here ar a couple of pictures
Mail order tunes are scary. They are a best guess at proper spark and fuel delivery for your engine combo. I avoid sending mail order tunes because it opens wide the door for rework and bad experiences.
You should identify a tuner who will both drive around town in your truck and make a few dyno pulls while watching the air/fuel with a wideband O2 sensor(s). There are no other shortcuts to getting a well tuned engine/transmission.
Yes I do understand, BUT I finally have, or rather he contacted me, a gentleman that is going to fix me up with a base tune to get this up and ready for the dyno Smoken!!!!
you should re pin to the 0411 its not hard and their is a lot more tuners willing to work with that ecm i tryed useing the black box pcm and had no luck what are those injectors from?

yup, that is exactly where we are going next, it is an easy swap from what I see. pluss I am switching to the LT1 throttle set up so that I can use the updated IAC and TPS
has anyone got a copy of the express van harness i can use tp start on my conversion they can send me?
I can get you a pinout .pdf of plugs at ecm plugs. If you want that, pm with email address.
As far as complete harness, you should buy a complete from mike@eficonnection.com or pick up one out of 01-02 express from junk yard.
Hey Thanks for that, I've just PM'd you.
Unfortunately I'm in Australia, no S10's or ExpressVans in sight
I've got 2 tpi harnesses i can use for connectors, a brand new still in box painless harness for tpi, and trying to get my hands on an ls1 harness from a Holden commodore over here. I'm hoping between that and the tpi harness I can build one for a lot cheaper.
I've heard a lot of peopel saying how fantastically difficult it is to make one up from scratch or try re-pinning and adding to an existing harness, but it can't be that hard can it?
If you've got a wiring diagram, the connectors, and a soldering iron, the rest should be easy yeah?
im selling off all my parts for this swap i have everything and its all new parts but the coil an ls1 pcm i have everything but the map sensor, set-up for an 88 pm me for a price get it cheaper now guys! or i can part it out also

No clue how to pm. Email me with a price: modernClassicsATgmail.
hey guys just a quick question. I need to change the gear ratio on my pcm for some new gears im getting. Is there a handheld programmer I can get to do this? If so what vehicle/application would I need?

Or should I just send it to my tuner?
Some of the commercial packages can do it. I dont know offhand if any of the hand-helds can. Its not a complicated change, just have to change the VSS pulses per mile, but obviously you have to reflash it. Tuner should have no trouble making the change.
If the PCM just handles the engine, the VSS stuff isnt that critical. Some things will change slightly, but not so much that you need to make changes. If your running an e-trans or TCC, then it needs to be changed.
On that same topic, I will also be releasing XDFs shortly for the '411 series PCMs so you can tune them with tunerpro. The XDFs for the engine will come first, and if sufficient demand, then the ones for the e-trans. Unlike the commercial guys, I actually have to go into the code to see how things work, so it takes time to get it all together. I have the same leaked info from GM that they do, but the factory comments are vague, and not of much help.
For those interested, the XDFs will probably only cost a small, nominal ammount, mainly just to raise some more money that I can plow back into development. There are about 5-6 XDFs for the engine, and likely another 3-4 for the e-trans and e-throttle when I get them done. Each XDF is pretty big, so there are probably some 2000-3000 parameters that will be editable when Im done. I attached a pic of the engine one just for reference as to what they look like.
Dimented, I'm glad to see that you've got the ball rolling. It would be nice to crack the complete ecm, and get enough people interested to help make it possible.
Thanks, a million.
I already have unlimited version of Tunercat II, but don't have any datalogging software.
As far as datalogging, someone wrote a plug-in for tunerpro so OBD tuning could scan using the ELM. I havent tried it out, but TP theoretically can handle sending all the packets. I dont know how well it will work on a slower laptop as you need a complete set of macros for each PID. You have to request them one at a time, and wait for the PCM to respond.
I didnt need scanning with my vortec blackbox as that one has a pretty good and straight forward algo, and is basically a simple one shot deal when it comes to tuning. It will be a must with the '411, though, as it has a lot more parameters, and uses a calibration similar to what would be seen on a MAF only car like a ford. Everything is based off of the cylinder airmass rather than mainly using MAP and baro.
well i read the first 200 sumthing post and im wondering if anyone has this working with a t56 out of the lt1 camaros? or a tko600 because hurst driveline conversions has a whole swap with everything i need for my truck with the tko trans, and if so what kind of mpgs could i expect?
I have a TKO in mine. Not too much different than any other setup. There is a lot of stuff in the later PCMs for the manual transmissions, though. They have all sorts of logic to dampen out the engine RPMs. Basically they add or remove spark to try to control the spark advance. They also have decel fuel cut-off during shifts and what not as well. So, having a manual really does impact the tuning side of things, depending on what cal you use.
From my experience, a lot of the spark control stuff can be kind of annoying as it retards teh spark and then adds and removes advance to try to control the engine. Not sure how many tuning packages have it defined, but its definitely a plus to disable it if the cal has it enabled.
As for MPG, that depends on your truck, and what you use it for. The manual will help a little.
hey guys I have a 92 firebird with a TBI 305 and I'm looking to put a 350 TPI out of a 89 IROC. i was wondering if it was possible to use the original TBI wiring harness on the TPI engine?

Harness Layout
TPI sensors, injectors, etc are not located in the same place as a TBI engine.
ECM Compatibility
Since you posted/replied in the TPI OBDII thread, you must have already seen that the point of this thread is the use of an LS1 type PCM. Alltogether different engine control module which will require an alltogether different harness.
Does anyone know where I can find 1988-1989 Pontiac Firebird TPI Air Duct and Top Loader" air cleaner (actualy container that holds the air filter(1988-1992)? I put a 1986 IROC TPI on a Chevy 400 small block in my 1980 Chevy Malibu. I need to run the Mass Air Flow to the right of my engine compartment and I need these parts to make that work.
411 swap is just a great addition to the tpi. been running it now for a month and tuning slowly. runs well. mileage is down but slowly getting back into the ball park
what is the most hp and boost you have ever seen with this conversion single coil seems to like d1sc I just got f1c working on bowtie block 383 do you think 900hp would be possible??? Thanks
Anyone ever think of installing a power steering pressure switch with the 0411? I'm running an 0411 4X setup and am also running a hydroboost setup, and having the little kick at idle to keep the engine speed up would really help.
Problem is I even though I can locate the sensor part number, I dont know the PCM pinouts for the 0411...
