Maximum Spark Advance?

What determines maximum spark advance? I know on my Firebirds I set the maximum spark advance to come in at 3000 RPMs at about 36 degrees. What can a fuel injected car run. Reason I ask is because I have recorded 43 degrees. The maximum spark advance set in programming was 43.95.

Thanks,
Craig

Re: Maximum Spark Advance?

Maximum spark advance that you can run may not be the optimum for your motor. Maybe the question should be "what is the least spark advance that I can run."

If a motor makes the same power from 28 degrees advanced to say 31 degrees advanced I would take the 28 degree number everytime.

Re: Maximum Spark Advance?

So is there any harm in setting the timing in the rpm vs. advace table to go no higher then 36?
