TPI cam swap

I have a 1991 TPI camaro Z28 with 3.23 posi and 700r4 transmission. I rebuilded the engine to stock spec and replaced the stock cam with a competiton cam grind # cs 266h-r14 part # 08-304-8. This cam has 110 intake center line. Duration at .050 intake 210, exhuast 220 and lobe separation 114. Comp cam reconmened their springs # 986-16, retainers, keepers and push rods. The heads are stock but have screw in stubs and comp cam 1.6 roller rockers. I know I will have to more mods to this car to make this cam work like it should. The car is running but acts like it has a bad cold, missins, stumbling and emitting all sorts of codes. From this point what do I do to get this camaro running. Should I go back to the stock cam or replace the fuel injection with a carb set-up and get rid of the computer. I am new at this and want to do the right thing.

I think you need a custom chip for this cam to work right in your car. Although the MAP systems can take some mods without a custom chip a cam change like this one, IMHO, would need a custom chip.
If you have the codes the computer is putting out list them it may help other to figure out if I'm right or not.

Good Luck!

A custom chip will HELP. However with a cam like that the car should run, drive and perform adequately. A custom chip will just enable the engine to REALLY take advantage of that cam. If you're throwing codes, then something else is wrong.

I want to thank Blade and Ski89z28 on their input about my cam swap. yes, my z28 computer is putting out a code 32 while driving on the freeway for after about 15 minutes. Also, I Looked at the sparks plugs and they have the signs of carbon depoists. I fail to mention that I have a HI-6 crane fireball ignition system set-up installed on this car. I read somewhere that with installation of this cam I will have to modified the plenum and runners along with the chip. Do any of you know anything about modification of these items.

Code 32 is for EGR. Check the wires on the valve and make sure it works properly. As for the cam, I also have a 91 Camaro and am running a 355 with Sportsman 11 heads, gear drive, 10:1 compression ratio, LT-4 hot cam that measures 221/231 duration and .525/.525 lift with Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 roller rockers. I have a ported Edelbrock base, 52mm Edelbrock throttle body, stock runners, and am driving the car every day for close to a year now. I have the factory 305 TPI 5 speed chip in the car, so I don't think your trouble lies in the chip. Yes a custom chip will help you, but for now, check for other troubles...

91 Camaro TPI, 355ci. Sportsman 11 heads, LT-4 Hot cam,Pete Jackson gear drive, on,and on, and on... 13.6 @ 102.5 with a 2:73 open rear, no traction, no tuning, no practice.
