Re: High-flow TPI Camaro air lid

Sorry, I don't have the dimensions for the ram-air boxes. It's been 7 - 8 years ago since I made them!

Update: I just picked up more epoxy and mixing tubes about 3 days ago. I should have about 3 - 4 more lids finished by the end of summer.

Thanks for the continued patience and sorry it's taking me so long. Between work and school ( 2 part time jobs and taking college courses for a career change ), I haven't had time for any projects! But, finals are this week and I don't back to school until the fall.......

Re: High-flow TPI Camaro air lid

Well, actually, this thread is about a high-flow camaro air filter lid (the black Y-lid on the topside). Those hawks ram-air boxes are similar to the ram-air boxes that I built for my car back several years ago, but the air lid in reference is on the topside of those (see pics on page 1 ).....

Nice job, you should make a mold and build them from fibreglass, you'd sell heaps and it would be quicker to churn them out. And the mega maf, hmmmmm I amy have to do some research........

Just curious, if you are using abs for everything else, why do you use a pvc coupler instead of an abs coupler?

Re: High-flow TPI Camaro air lid

The company I buy my ABS from does not make couplers, they only make sheets.

The Epoxy I use is strong enough to bond an engine to a K-member!!!

Trust me, you'll break something else before you break where I've bonded the pieces...

Re: High-flow TPI Camaro air lid

Oh man.. I just gutted the lower intake part, so this would be my next step.. I'm not a fan of gutting the maf screens because some people have had problems.. But definitely a higher flowing air lid would be awesome! I think that's the most restriction of my intake as well!

I would definitely buy this in a heartbeat! It takes nothing to install as well.. You could make some serious money from this and maybe even patent it..

Later,
-Marc

Just watched your video. Your combination is very similar to mine save for the TPI. I run a 600 Holley on an Air Gap intake. Same cam, Vortec heads and rear end gearing.
Have you managed to make it the track or dyno yet?

How'r you fixin on the extra RHA's (ram her air)???? I still have the $$$ that I put aside last year when we first talked about your lid and Doc's Mega MAF. Can you PM me with some actual info??? It would be appreciated. What else have you done to your Hot Rod this past year?

I figured I throw a picture up of the grill screens (that screen-off the ram-air boxes) that I made, beings it is relevant to the whole air-intake setup.....

Re: High-flow TPI Camaro air lid

I have a fiberglass cowl induction hood, not the stocker but i'm assuming I'd probably have more space than the stocker to fit this. If you ever make these into production i'd buy it in a heartbeat. This would do wonders in any TPI in my opinion... This is probably the most restrictive part of the intake (provided you have ported the plenum, runners and manifold).

I am curious though... Everyone who has those raim air boxes in place where the fog lights were... Do you think it would be possible to keep the fog lights there AND have the ram air box at the same time? I think that would be amazing to have both AND have this custom airbox lid... Power and looks!

Re: High-flow TPI Camaro air lid

Thanks for the compliment on the grill!

As far as the fog light question.....

I removed my fog lights because I think they block a good chunk of the air-flow.

Re: High-flow TPI Camaro air lid

I love your car and what you did to it! I bought the ram air kit or whatever people call it from hawks and it really works! I have been wondering for a while how I could modify my air lid, I know it is a restriction to air flow since I read it only flows 500 cfm. I am VERY interessted in one that you made but you asked people to pm you for it. What is pm and how do I do it! I'm new at this!!
Thanks in advance!!

Re: High-flow TPI Camaro air lid

pm is a personal message....click on his name, and click on send a message to 1bad91z.....then type your message in.....send.
I also have designed a air lid that is a little different, but based on 1bad91z design....I am going to send pics to him and on this thread when I get it done....should be done today, and i'll take pics....it's pretty much the same as his, but also raised above the air filter area, and with an oval pvc80 plastic intake tube to throttle body instead of a round silicon tube. I think the revised design will flow more air (I had an engineer improve on his design with me, NO OFFENSE 1bad91z, just improving a little on what a good design you had), But I do not want to steal from 1bad91z, so I'll send him the instructions for the new revised air lid and he can decide to try to build them if he likes or stick with his design...but I don't wanna try and steal what he started (kinda like a courtesy patent on his fabrication)....check back on this thread later on for pics...

Re: High-flow TPI Camaro air lid

do you have the spintech muffler with your mufflex exhaust? B/C I want to upgrade to a 3.5 exhaust and want to go with the ultra flo, but don't know how loud it would be, because I drive mostly on the streets and want to keep noise down a bit

therain2008 -
Thanks for the compliment! To send me a PM, just click my name above my avatar (little pic of my car), it will pull up a menu. Then click send private message. Fill out subject box and message area, then click send.

91interceptorZ -
Sent you a PM. I hope your project turns out well and I appreciate the courtesy!

joeblue83 -
I'm running the Spintech muffler (which will be louder than the ultraflow). Click the link below which is a video I took of my car and you can hear what it sounds like with a Spintech and a healthy cam!

No official 1/4 times, but from the cars that I've raced and beat, my car should have a high 11 sec. max to a consistent low 12 in it.
