First off, unless you are willing to relocate your fuel vapor canister, don't even go with cold air induction. It will need to be removed, along with your stock air filter box and the tray they sit on. The SLP cold air box is simply a big plastic box that sits down into that same location, and it connects to the inside of the fender. From that point you will need the stock intake flexible connectors from a 88-89 model, you can reuse your same MAF. When I bought my 87 it had this set-up, I don't have any of the stock '87 intake parts that the car originally came with. The last owner of my car took out the vapor canister and did not relocate it, now I have fume problems under the hood. If you'll look at the stock '87 air filter canister you'll notice the air hose connects into the side of it, the 88-89's connect to the top, that's the biggest difference.
Now for the chrome types you see on ebay, you can leave the tray and the vapor canister, but remove the stock air filter canister only. You will still need the "L" shaped flexible piece from a 88-89 though. This is not technically a "cold air" system, but it's an easier option (and looks good).
