Thanks for that tip. Just recently, the engine on idle began to surge up and down. However that is the only code in the ecm (36). Any thoughts? It was running great last week. Took it to a get a smog check and they had told me it was running too rich. I replaced plugs, oil, and O2 sensor. I also ran an additive cleaner in the tank for the engine. I think when I accelerate the engine runs great, but bringing it back to an idle it surges. I don't know. Is the burnoff of the MAF that critical to smog? Cali's laws are tough.

I would check the fuel filter. If that isn't the problem, check the Idle Air Control Sensor (located on the passenger side of the throttle body). On my car, the spring was compressed with carbon and caused the engine to surge on idle.
