383 gm crate motor question

has anyone used the gm 383 crate motor with the tpi setup? would this set up work as a starting point and as funds increase change the cam heads etc and can this crate engine handle the future power of a properly match set up.

If you are talking about the HT383 crate motor, It has vortec heads. A regular TPI base will not bolt to it.

As far as I know, you can only get the GM HT383 as a long block with vortec heads. So if you find a p/n for a short block 383 from GM, I think I and a lot of others here would like to have it. I have an odd feeling that the dealer you were talking to just wants to get you that HT383 and take the heads off and come up with a price for the short block. They could then sell the heads, or take the heads for themselves. Let me know what ya find out............

it is not a 383 by normal means usually the bore is opened up a little and a 400 crank is installed on the crate motor the bore is still a 4.00 in bore the cylinders will still fill like a 350 leaving out the question of spinning the motor real high the stroke is a special one piece seal 3.80 in it sounds good for a mild motor with a huge tourqe band for towing or racing in a light weight car
