Re: 305 cam help

Cant seem to find one at the moment. one guys has one over on fbody but it takes him days to respond to any of my msg's. And on ebay there always in a whole package with the rest of the valvetrain.

That what I have been looking for in the first place.

So i guess if anyone has a stock lt1 cam that they are willing to part.

Check on camaroz28.com, that's where I found mine. That sight caters to all generations of F-bodys, so you'll find one in a hurry. I just put out a wanted ad and had one within a week (out of a 97, with 30,000 on it).

Re: 305 cam help

I have a brand new, never run L31 cam (same as LT1 B-cam except for the shorter dowel at the nose, which is what you'd want anyway). $50+shipping. Or if you're not in a hurry, I could drop it at the shop in Dayton where I go and you can pick it up there.
The LT1-B is ground on a 111 LSA which gives it a better midrange power curve than the LT1 F or Y cams. Would be especially beneficial in a 305 motor.

Re: 305 cam help

Hey guys,
new to the forum here, and Im also looking for info on LT1 cams. I got a 94 9C1 caprice engine (350 5.7L) that im going to drop in to my 86 trans-am. Would it be ideal to put an Lt1 cam in there?
Thanks

Yup, it's an LO5 motor. So besides an LT1 cam, what other parts would work good on it?
Should I start a new thread?

Re: 305 cam help

If it's the original engine in the 94 9C1 and it's a 5.7, then it's an LT1, not an LO5.
Be careful, 94-96 9C1's with the "baby LT1" 4.3 L also exist.

Re: 305 cam help

The iron head LT1 engine will perform about as good as the same 94-96 f body engines if you put the real LT1 cam or the stock LT4 cam in. The big body engines used a much smaller cam, which is the same as the 96-99 L31 cam.
A lot of LT1 people say that the cast iron heads flowed better than the aluminum heads the same years.
GM liked them so much they used the same basic head on the L31 except for the reverse flow cooling system.

Heh heh......"The iron head LT1 engine will perform about as good as the same 94-96 f body engines if you".........just leave the cam alone
Because of its superior LSA of 111 deg and installed ICL of 107 deg, it actually outperforms the f/y LT1 cams up through the midrange, whereas the f/y cam's emissions-slanted goofy LSA and ICL sacrifices midrange power just to eek out a few numbers at a 5200-5300 peak versus the b cam's 5000 peak. And there's more to the story: With the same intake and exhaust setups, there's even less of a peak hp difference than the 15-25 hp Chevy advertised.

Re: 305 cam help

Why exactly are LT1 cams a good swap over for the 305? I've been thinking about getting a cam for a while now, and now someone in my class is building up his LT1 and he's probably going to be changing the cam, so it sounds like it might be a good idea to try and get his old cam off of him.

Would an LT1 cam require any mods to the heads? I would be putting new springs in anyways, but other than that? Is there any specific LT1 cam that would be most or least beneficial?

Re: 305 cam help

I'm not sure those are legitimate casting nos.
Look here for ways to identify LT1 vs L99:
