If you really wanna, I have a post on my website giving a journal of the things I did to convert my car from a 4bbl to TPI. visit
http://www.3rdgenformula.com. Granted going from TBI to TPI is different than a 4BBL to TPI. I personally did it for asthetic value, I like the way it looks, great for car shows. (its amazing the people who didn't know these cars actually came with TPI.
As for Fuel econ, I went from 16-18 MPG highway to 23.5 highway. Keep in mind I had a 4bbl.
If you want SERIOUS HP, I know you can squeeze it out of a TPI setup, but look for paying more than just a stock setup.
Dont be fooled, you WILL need to change your fuel tank fuel pump, they are waaayy different, while your at it you should run better fuel lines to boot. There is more than you see under the hood.
As for paying $500 for only a wire harness, computer & Intake, start looking into the bone yards, I bought a whole CAR for $800 and then I HAD everything I needed. I know where you can get a whole running 86 TPI camaro for $600 bux.
Good luck
John
