Well after many many hours of thinking....and changing my mind many times...I finally decided to switch from TBI to TPI....i was looking around on ebay...and they have complete tpi packages with ecm and everything for around $500. Anyways...Right now the only mods I have are the exhaust.....but I will be getting a new engine later on....looking at about 350-425 HP engine....then throwing in NOS at the end. I know i'll need to upgrade the TPI system (base, runners, plenum) when I get the new engine...but for now...I think i'll go ahead and switch over to TPI....and get the wiring out of the way for the engine swap. I have a stock LO3 Automatic....I am aware of the "peanut cam" and the crappy heads....but by switching over to TPI...what improvements will i get in terms of power and fuel economy? Also, I read on the tech article that I need to change the fuel pump....should I change to one that will handle my new engine...or will that be too much for the 305? Also, where is the fuel pump sending unit? That was also in the tech article...but didnt say where it goes. Also....I do need to pass inspection...so how do i go about hooking up the EGR? Can I just use the one on my current car and switch it over? Honestly i would think it to be cheaper and better to upgrade your TBI, different manifold, dual TB's, etc...i don't see TPI justifying 500 dollers.

If you really wanna, I have a post on my website giving a journal of the things I did to convert my car from a 4bbl to TPI. visit http://www.3rdgenformula.com. Granted going from TBI to TPI is different than a 4BBL to TPI. I personally did it for asthetic value, I like the way it looks, great for car shows. (its amazing the people who didn't know these cars actually came with TPI.

As for Fuel econ, I went from 16-18 MPG highway to 23.5 highway. Keep in mind I had a 4bbl.

If you want SERIOUS HP, I know you can squeeze it out of a TPI setup, but look for paying more than just a stock setup.

Dont be fooled, you WILL need to change your fuel tank fuel pump, they are waaayy different, while your at it you should run better fuel lines to boot. There is more than you see under the hood.

As for paying $500 for only a wire harness, computer & Intake, start looking into the bone yards, I bought a whole CAR for $800 and then I HAD everything I needed. I know where you can get a whole running 86 TPI camaro for $600 bux.
