I was set on a LT4 hot cam...but now im not so sure....here is what im planning:
-383 with forged internals
-AFR aluminum 195cc Street Heads, Angle Plug w/heat riser, 68cc
-Super Ram intake
-Around 10.1 compression
-Want best gas mileage possible
-Running atleast 12s (11s would be nice) in 1/4
-Daily driver
-Needs to pass TX inspection/emmisions
Which cam should I go with? Here are the specs of the two:
------------------
1992 Teal Camaro RS
T-Tops
305 TBI V8
Open air element
3" Flowmaster Exhaust System w/Quad Tips
Aiwa CD/Mp3 player
10 Disc CD Changer
Rockford Fosgate Speakers
SLP Headers Coming
Dynomax High Flow Cats Coming
More to come.
I would and did go with the LPE "219" cam. It has proven itself to be a strong performer. It will also pass the "sniffer" The SR is not a short runner intake. It may have shorter runners than the standard TPI but it is by no means a short runner system.
well the site (http://www.lingenfelter.com) does say the lpe219 cam is for 350-409 engines or something like that........but its also like 3x the price of the hot cam....and so Im all confused now.....is the lpe cam really worth the extra $200 or so....for something that seems to be EXACTLY like the hot cam......plus its not like the hot cam is a crappy cam...im actually suprised its so cheap. Just confused.
The reason your seeing the hugh price difference is because the LPE cam says Lingenfelter all over it.. Thats about the ONLY reason. I'm sure the hotcam would work pretty well also.

I think both those cams are too small for what you want. I'd say the GMPP cam thats one bigger than the LT4 HOT, I think its like 224/230 or something like that.
The LPE roller cams are made from billet steel which may contribute to their higher cost. That and the box says "Lingenfelter" on it. Your best bet would probably be to call all of the better cam manufacturers like Comp, Crane, Schneider, etc and see what they recommend.
Definitely go with the 219 cam...it's made for the SR. Plenty of guys are running this setup (mostly Vettes though) and they pull low 12s/high 11s on a 383...definitely a hot street combo that passes smog. One guy on the corvetteforum is running high 11s @ 116 mph on a stock block 350, NA using a 219/AFR/SR setup.

Both cams will pass the sniffer.. Both cams are Billet. The 219 cam was made specifically for the SR setup. If you want good gas mileage, and a decent idle, go with the 219 cam.. I ran the 219 with my 383 SR setup with TFS heads that flowed around 258 cfm@ .500 It was a decent cam for the street. The AFR heads are kind of lacking on the exhaust side out of the box, and you might want to consider using a split duration cam to help the exhaust side out a bit. Even though the 219 cam is made for the SR, heads play a role also. If you use the Hotcam, make sure and use 1.6 rockers, because it is .525 lift only with the 1.6 rockers.
like kevin g said the exhaust porton the afr's aren't the best i would definatly go with a split dur. cam to help out the exhaust a bit oryou could just go with 1.5's on the intake and 1.6's on the exhaust to get a little bit.....for the money you can't beat the hot cam
