tpi swap help

sorry i am posting about an el camino, but i have no other sites that could help. Me and my dad just did a tpi swap on my el camin. it is all wired up and it bairly starts. when we get the thing to start it wont go over 500 rpm, we have just a race fuel pump to get everything running for now before we get an in line one. we made sure we have 305 injectors and everything to match. it seems like the passenger side of the motor is running and the driver side isnt for some reason. any help will help us alot... also it is an engine out of a camaro, the year is about a 1988...please help this is my only way to school and work and i need it running ASAP...

Re: tpi swap help

not sure. but did the camaro it came out of have a chip in the key. could be thats whats holding it up. other than that you're supposed to have 40 psi fuel pressure in the fuel rail.

Re: tpi swap help

not a key problem...somethings not working rite on the engine at all...we have timeing correct and it will start up and run with the race fuel pump but we cant get it to stop shaking alot or even go over 500 rpm. we just need some ideas that we can check for tomorrow. we will try to check the fuel pressure tomorrow. and when we give it some throttle it just dies rite out, and we cant seem to get any fuel to come out of the return line. the pump is pumping alot of fuel but no leaks and no fuel coming out of return...help

Re: tpi swap help

88 shouldn't have a chip mine doesn't. check all your plug wires make sure they're firing right (correct spark and order) then check your distributor make sure its dry and functioning. and check the shrader valve how are you sure your getting alot of fuel? did you make sure to swap in a tpi computer and esc module? Check the plugs, make sure they're not fouled. start piece by piece with the ignition system. check big three to start with fuel, spark, and air.

Re: tpi swap help

what type of "race pump" did you use?
specs at idle are 30~44 PSI. at key on 40~47.
TPI needs around 20~25 PSI before it will even start & idle, it won't rev very good if at all at that low of pressure. with 30 PSI at WOT it will lack power.
my guess is the pump you have isn't producing enough pressure & volume to supply the motor.
when you check the pressure let us know what it is.
