Auto X-ray problems........anyone else?

what I got: '87 iroc, 350 tpi, 700-r4, yada yada yada.
My scanner is an Auto X-ray.
When I drive my car with the scanner in monitor mode, it detects knock at even moderate throttle, up to 20` of retard. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it so I took it to a dealer and told them it was detecting knock. They ran it with their scanner and said they never detected any. Is my scanner wrong or are they? Has anyone else had this happen? Are you supposed to use my scanner in this way? Anyone?

My autoxray does detect knock count and I think once I saw 1% timing retard due to knock. I drive around in monitor all the time. I have heard that earlier TPI/HEI systems will get a timing problem from having a scanner plugged into the ALDL port. I think I read that in my Autoxray instructions somewhere. Anyone else confirm this?
